Hi there,
This just happend about 6 hours ago. Somebody logged into my paypal account, transfered money from my bank to paypal and then transferred the money to his account. The person's name is:
Paul Aughinbaugh
email is:
paughinbaugh@satx.rr.com.

The guy does not have any address or left any comment. I called up paypal and they said that they will do a *spoof report*, not sure how the hell I can be helped!!!

What options do I have now?
can I go to my bank and block this transaction?
Should I let the transaction go through?
Keep bugging the hell out of paypal?
I already emailed the mysterious person and contacted paypal. I am thinking of going and talking to my bank about this tomorrow. I wouldn't be so much as worried but the amount that was transferred was 2000 dollars. YES 2000.00 Dollars!

Things I did were remove my paypal bank acount, change my password and thats it. If anyone knows anything about this guy and can help me out please help me out!

Um, doesn't it take 3-4 days for a bank transfer to process on paypal?

i think there was some kind of scam going on. have you recently went to a site like www.paypal-(words here).com? there was a scam going on, and that's quite possibly how your account got hacked. if i were you i would see your bank tomorrow, and contact RR about that guy. im sure thats a real e-mail address. hes very stupid for using his own road runner account address. hope you can resolve this. also try getting in touch with paypaldamon. he helps a lot!

According to Paypal, your account is insured against unauthorized withdrawals but there may be conditions attached. Read this. Good luck.

From the Paypal terms of agreement:

" VI. Electronic Fund Transfer Rights and Error Resolution
It is very important that you contact us at once if you believe your user ID or password has been compromised, or if someone has transferred or may transfer money from your account without your permission. Under applicable banking regulations, the extent of your liability for an unauthorized transaction is largely determined by your promptness in notifying us or your bank if someone has gained access to your password, or if a transfer or withdrawal in your monthly statement is incorrect or unauthorized. Notifying us quickly limits your liability:

If you notify us within two business days after you learn that your password or other means to access your account may have become known by an unauthorized person, you can lose no more than $50.00 if an unauthorized person uses your password or other means to access your account without your permission to initiate a transaction. If you do not notify us within two business days, and we can prove that we could have stopped someone from using your password or other means to access your account without your permission if you had told us, you could be liable for as much as $500.00.

You can inspect your transaction history at any time by logging in to your account on the PayPal website. If your transaction history shows electronic funds transfers that you did not make or authorize, notify us at once. If you do not notify us within 60 days after receiving notice, you may not recover any money you lose after the 60 days if we can prove that we could have stopped someone from taking the money if you had notified us in time. If a good reason (such as a long trip or hospital stay) kept you from notifying us, we may extend the time periods.

In case of unauthorized transactions, payment problems, errors or questions about your account, you should notify PayPal through application messaging or e-mail. You must: 1) Tell us your name and primary email address; 2) Describe the error or the transaction you are unsure about, and explain as clearly as you can why you believe it is an error or why you need more information; and, 3) Tell us the dollar amount of the suspected error. If you tell us by telephone, we may require that you send your complaint in writing within ten (10) business days. We will tell you the results of our investigation within ten (10) business days after we hear from you, and will correct any error promptly. If we need more time, however, we may take up to forty-five (45) calendar days to investigate the complaint or question. If we decide to do this, we will provisionally credit your transaction account within ten (10) business days for the amount you think is in error, so that you may have the use of the money during the time it takes us to complete our investigation. If we ask you to put your complaint or question in writing and we do not receive it within ten (10) business days, we may not provisionally credit your transaction account. If we determine there was no error, we will mail you a written explanation within three (3) business days after we finish the investigation. You may ask for copies of documents which we used in our investigation. We may revoke any provisional credit provided to you if we find that an error did not occur."

Wow, you better call , call, call and drive down there fast!!!!!! I called paypal today to check a payment that was pending for weeks. Anyway, the security was pretty impressive over the phone at least.. they asked everything about me name, address, phone, email, etc.. they even asked what bank account I registered and when I got it wrong they wouldn't talk to me. Sorry, I'm a member w/ more then one bank!!!!!!! Those bastards better increase their secuirty in making transactions not checking them.

Maybe you logged into paypal, logged out, and kept using that browser. Due to your cookie settings and stuff, maybe somehow your login info was floating around in you system... and someone just easily got to your 'puter and found it. Do you have a firewall? Do you shut your brower immediately after logging out of a secure site?

Just some ideas... I hope for the best for you.

Watch out for transfers to and from adrian5434@hotmail.com. This is his "primary" account email with the RR a secondary.

Paypaldamon works for Paypal and pops into these forums. PM him and he can possibly provide another way to get at this problem.

Big thing here is to make sure you've follow Paypal's policies to a T so they don't try to claim that they can't do anything. Call em again and double check that a report was filed, etc. etc.

The bank -may- be able to stop the transaction. I'd recommend getting them in on the happenings in the case ASAP. $2000 is nothing to shake a stick at.

I just went to the bank and they said that I would have to wait till monday when the whole bank is open. Today it is only open for deposits and stuff like that, but no real account problems. Well I just PM'd Paypaldamon so lets hope I get some responses soon. Should I email him too? Or PM is sufficient enough?

Thanks.

Ok. My latest update is that the money is in the process of transferring to paypal. My bank was not able to stop it on time. However paypal said that they will stop the money transfer of that imposter!!! Good thing they did that!! Otherwise I would be 2000 dollars short and quite very :|

Paypaldamon did not repond to me yet though, he might be busy?

Well, that's good news, right?

I'm glad you were able to stop him. That's gotta make your holiday brighter

If I were you, I'd check your computer for any password trojans.
