That would be what? Middle of July? We've known that was the timeline for a while now, it's only been those still in denial saying September or "end of the year". Good to get another source of information though.

Well six weeks is actually July 6, so thats a little bit ahead of July 23rd. And from a company involved in getting the(ok maybe not THESE) chips/mobos to actual market by the sound of it. That has some credibility to it.

I wonder why anyone bothers posting anything here sometimes.

According to this article which was just released today, the Conroe launch is on July 23rd. Earlier would be really sweeet!!! Article also says Intel expects 40% of desktop sales to be Conroe machine by Q1 07 so it looks like there's going to be lots of Conroes coming out.

I never said anything except that I was passing information along. I never made any claim to how factual that information was.

Because the information may well be accurate - we don't know, but some people actually care. Unlike other people like yourself who claim to not care but still waste time reading the thread and posting stupid responses flaming the original poster for something that is perfectly acceptable and desired by the majority of the other people who read the thread.

Questioning the validity of a rumor is not flaming, sorry. People do it all the time when links to Inq articles are pasted.

While a 17-day early release for Conroe makes no difference to me, people posting rumor and speculation as kinda sorta fact does. The OP even went so far as to state that he could make no claims as to how factual the information was.

I don't think the OP is lying. I think he is passing along information he got from an unnamed first-tier manufacturer. The problem is that the information may not have been good in the first place. If you have unreliable/unverified data, why report it? We won't even know if the information will be useful at all until July. If what he says proves to be untrue, will anyone call him out for spreading false information?

When people question the validity of Inq articles, they generally get a pass (for pretty good reasons). But if we question Questar, we're flaming?

Also, are any of us actually going to know which first-tier manufacturer is selling Conroe CPUs early so that we can actually take advantage of it? Will they only be selling Conroe as a part of OEM machines that many of us would not want to buy? Even for a rumor, there seems to be too little information here for it to be potentially useful.

I don't see what your grudge is, he's not posting false information. He's not claiming what he's posting is gosple. He's just posting something he heard for everyone to discuss. I don't see why you're so bent out of shape about it.

Sigh, I've waited this long.. whats another 6 weeks before I can see some decent conroe reviews. Perhaps by then more AM2 will be available and the 939 prices will have dropped.

I'm gonna have to choose by the end of the summer though, I'm getting sick of waiting and I want a new machine ready for NWN2 and the WoW expansion. Its depressing having a laptop thats better than my desktop in many games.
