Someone better hold me back!

Getting ready for Oblivion I sold my 7800GT and shipped it off asap. I've been without a video card for 3 weeks, but that's alright, because I purchased an X1900XT off ebay from a seller with 100% feedback! It's a genuine ATI retail, brand new in the box, and I got it SHIPPED for $436! Wait, did I say I got it shipped? Oh no, my bad!

Three weeks later and the SOB still won't respond to my e-mails. For whatever reason I checked my Paypal account and there's a $436 refund "pending" to my account. The POS didn't even have the nerve to e-mail me and tell me he was refunding my money. To add salt to my wounds I have the next two days off work, and the weekend off, for a total of four days I could be playing Oblivion, but can't. I'm on my wife's old computer typing this, looking at my newly built computer without a card to fill its PCI-E slot. SOB!

With that, should I go with another X1900XT? I haven't really been on the boards much to see how Oblivion is performing but I would expect the X1900XT to be handling it pretty well. My system is an Opteron 165 @2.4ghz, 1 gig of ram, and a 21" Sony G500 flat CRT that can hit 2048x1536. I know I won't be playing at that res, but it's there. I was checking out the Powercolor X1900XT retail for $439 off newegg, seeing how it's only $5 more than the OEM. Or, should I get a different card or wait for the new offering from ATI (whenever that's coming) and get something decent for the time being?

well even though he has 100% positive feedbacks, it doesn't mean anything if he has like <50 feedbacks. I would trust a 99% positive feedbacks seller with like 1000+ sales more than a 100% one with 20 sales. but consider yourself lucky you got your money back. don't give him a negative feedback unless you want one too

Actually he fact tha you went through Paypal sould of had you covered if he had tried to rip you off. Most all sellers on Ebay now have to be a step up and I have heard of Paypal getting pretty medieval when a person did not deliver purchased merchandise. Everything from locking up their bank accounts and more.

And I disagree with some of the others above posting that 100% fedback doesnt mean anything. I have seen people who are a few points off of perfect give some pretty bad service. Many of those 10,000 plus sellers have a ton of bad input but the sheer volume makes them look alot better than they are.

I have only had one problem on Ebay and I have been with them since they just about started. I got lucky and got a great deal on a auction, paid the seller twice (Two Checks as he did not offer Payal) and he claimed to of never recieved either, then he relists the item and it did go for a whole lot more the next time around. Was cheap imo but I guess he felt ripped off because of the low price I won the auction for. But I have been with Ebay for like I say since they about started and only have 130 or so positives with a 99.8% or so positive ratio (The one bad was the guy above) so dont always base it on volume as quantity usually never out weighs quality.

But sorry to wonder off topic. as some have stated always RMA a card (well get a RMA would be a better way to state it (Return Merchandise Authorization). If its within thirty days its almost always better to deal with the retailer that you purchased it from vs the cards actual manufactuer. Many hardware manufactuers will send out refurbished cards as replacements, I guess as long as it works as it should its technically no different, but it kind of sucks to pay for a brand new card and get a Refurb almost immediatly. The retailer does not do this, they ship you a exact replacement of what you purchased. So if possible call Newegg and send it back to them, they are also usually a little quicker at getting your replacement out.

Good luck and hopefully you wont have tis problem again, it really does sound like poor contact between the gpu and heatsink which does happen sometimes and imo would probably be a more common problem than most depending on manufacturing process.

One question though: Why would you go eBay when you could get the same card for a few bucks more from Newegg? I don't have an issue with eBay, but there is some risk involved, and it's only worth the risk if you can save a significant amount over a trusted retail store. For $5-10 on a $400+ item... not worth it IMO.

When I got it for $436 shipped they were still selling for near $500 on Newegg. A day or two afterwards they dropped the prices on them, so I was kind of out of luck on that part.

But to be a bit more serious, this is what I get for having multiple browsers open at the same time. There was a post up at the same time I posted this that had to do with a indidivudal having problems with his X1900XT. The problems were overheating, he was getting up to 100C sometimes. Can you say Ouchie

Well throw in way too little sleep mixed with me reading posts too quickly and my thoughts got intertwined. While replying to this post, I started replying to the other post as well, all without hitting alt tab first. So my thought was actually coherent and was on topic, just not on this topic

Well, maybe it will work out for the best then... You can now buy a fully warranteed card from a reputable vendor for the same price as you got one on eBay three weeks ago. Seriously though, I hate hearing about bad experiences on Ebay. I sell quite stuff on there, and I know that people having bad experiences will drive them away. I had to get back in the saddle myself after having dealt with a non-paying bidder. I almost gave up on Ebay, but decided to try again (with some addtitional ground rules), and I'm glad I did. Ebay really is the best way for an average Joe to sell their used stuff at a fair price to both buyer and seller.
