I want to now what processor is better, the pentium 3 of the xbox (733 mhz) or the emotion enginge of the playstation 2 (300 mhz).

I think that the emotion engine is better than the pentium 3 because it does 6'2 gigaflops, while the pentium 3 does 1'2. But i do not know certainly.


If someone can explain me, thanks a lot

i'm not really sure, but i think that you're comparing the wrong things. i think that the emotion engine is a video card. what's the video card of the xbox and what are the specs on that?

It all depends upon the situation. Assuming heavy optimization for a the specific processors, it is quite likely that they will run pretty much neck and neck.

I think the X-box uses some modified GeForce 2 chip.

It's really impossible to compare them because they are used in different processing models. The emotion engine of the playstation 2 is not used in the same manner as the CPU of a computer would be. The tasks are allocated differently and therefor require different kinds of capabilities. Obviously the Emotion Engine is engineered to be a FLOP cranking monster (hence such a larger number of Gigaflops with a lower clockspeed) but this is largly because it was designed exclusively for video games where not much attention needs to be paid to Arithmetic logic. In my way of thinking the PS2 has the advantage because of it's dedication of design but once the Pentium 3 is coupled with the modified GeForce 3 that they are going to use in the XBox it will be force to be reckoned with.
