Clarity - even SI2 should not have any defects that are visible to the naked eye, but even defects that you can't see can affect the light as it passes through the diamond and result in less brilliance.
Cut is the biggest factor in how much light is reflected back out of the diamond I believe, so I wouldn't skimp on it. If anything, I'd skimp on size. Better to have a beautiful but smaller diamond than a big not so beautiful diamond.
As for why cuts are more or less expensives, I have no idea but I'd guess it's because some cuts allow them to use more or less of the rough diamond, and some cuts (heart) allow them to cut around defects.

Actually... they're not
And here I sit, idle, knowing that all I have to do is start telling people that something is really valuable. If I say it enough times, maybe people will start believing it.Originally posted by: flxnimprtmscl

Pretty much. Oh, and the more gullible men who originally gave into this crap and got it all started. "Sure honey, I'll get you a chunk of carbon that's not even remotely rare and would be pretty much worthless if not for a monopoly and endless marketing hype. And I'll gladly spend a boatload of money on it too."

Problems:
1) Ethics. Ethics are always a roadblock in the path to easy money.
But is it really unethical to convince stupid people to give you their money willingly, by using little more than a few arguments which employ circular logic?
2) I don't know what thing I should try to sell. It should be shiny though. People seem to think that shiny things are inherently more valuable than non-shiny things.
Diamonds are very good things to have around. They are incredibly good conductors of heat, and are quite useful in industry in abrasives and cutting tools. Want a heatsink to overclock the hell out of a processor? Forget about copper, aluminum, or watercooling - use a diamond heatsink.
Dammit, but those are the most profitable kinds of deals! I wouldn't be the reason for all the death and destruction. I'd just provide tools to allow for efficient expression of that hatred, at very reasonable prices, like a friendly neighborhood hardware store!Originally posted by: Wreckem
It might classify as ethics, but I doubt youd be willing to start wars while supplying both sides with weaponary.
