someone help with wireless network setup?

hi, first of all thx for takin the time to read my post, i need some help caz im a newb.

k im hooking up my computer at my aunts house and they already have cable modem. my uncle thinks wireless is the best idea so his kids dont trip on the wires and so he doesnt have to drill any holes... makes sense SO

what do i need? ive heard wireless routers, wireless access points, wireless pc cards, etc, but i dont know what the difference is between them and to be honest im a lazy bastardthat doesnt feel like lookin for the answers on my own so i come here so u tech guys can help me. barracuda directed me here, says u guys are the smartest on the net so, have at it,tell me:

1. what -all- i need to buy
2. how to set it up (and on what operating system)
3. and when ur done with that i got another question heh

Get a wireless router switch combo, I have a linksys works great for me.
You'll need a wireless card for each PC. If you have windows XP it should pick it up and PnP should do most the work for ya, I believe DHCP is on by default in the router, so make sure your computers are set to obtain an IP automatically, let me know if you have any other questions

my friend in my tech class right now says i dont need to buy a wireless pci card for each comp, only the one that isnt connected to the cablemodem. whos right here u or him?

and my aunts computer is ghetto, 500 mhz, win98, 62mb ram... my computer is win2k, 800mhz. will her computer slow down the internet speed for mine or not?

Every computer not hard-wired to your router will need a wireless card. If you only have two and one is hardwired only the other will need a wireless card. Since your sharing bandwith, her computer could slow your connection down, depends on what shes doing on it, if shes just surfing the web you should be fine.
