i have posted before but got no reply so i will try to be as specific as possible in the hope of getting some help, i just built my computer parts are as follows:
Rosewill 500w psu (want to rma it for another psu dont know which one yet)
Western Digital 250GB hdd
samsung dvd-rw optical drive
Albatron 7950GT
Thermaltake Tsunami case
BIOSTAR TForce965PT mobo
OCZ Platinum Revision 2 2GB
core 2 duo 4300

built it fine, installed xp it is up and running, installed drivers, flashes mobo bios, the ocing is where irun into problems.
i'm using the stock HSF, ram is running at 2.0v 4-4-4-4-15 timings, the 4300 is at 1.325v at first i raised the fsb to 233 that worked fine, but when i take it any higher than 250 it boots then crashes and tells me the overclock settings in the bios were reset, and the FSB is back to 200. using the program core temp, core 0 is 29 core 1 is 29 at idle, both cores under full load are 50 degress celcius. so i'm at a loss as what to do, would upgrading my cooling even allow a faster oc? this is my first build and as youcan imagine i'm pretty pissed right now. what should i do?

First off you need to download the 119RH beta bios from Rebels Haven because it is the only one that has the DDR400 "system ram speed" setting, this gives you the 1:1 divider that is necessary for good overclocking with 800FSB chips (E4300). Here

Once you get that bios flashed, set ram speed to 400 and you should be good to go

For more info browse the threads at Rebels Haven Intel mobos

If your still having trouble, or have questions post the specific bios settings that you are trying to use here and I'll help you

wow, thank you so much! before i went on that site and acciently downloaded the official bios thinking it was the 119r...damn, this has ben frusterating me for days. i do have ddr2 800 but it can be downclocked and run at 400 no problem i'm assuming. i posted on 2 other forums about this.

Because RAM is DDR, so it's running @ 200 Mhz, but providing the performance it would if it were running twice that speed.

Yes, as long as you don't plan on overclocking your processor.

Yeah the 1:1 thing is kind of confusing, the DDR(double data rate) speed is 2x the actual ram bus speed.

FSB 266 @ 1:1= 266(true ram bus speed) = DDR533

And yes at that FSB you can go back to the 533 setting and your ram will still be running under stock. But I'm betting you can get much higher. By bumping up the vcore, mch, fsb volts you should be able to hit 350x9=3150 pretty easy. You can probably get 401x8=3206 with ram at DDR802(400 setting) but you may need to put a small fan on the NB chipset

If you want to try for 3.2ghz go straight to 401, don't mess with FSB's between 370-399 P965 boards automatically loosen the internal timings at 400 or 401 which makes it much easier.

ok cool, thanks again for the tips. on stock cooling how high would you take the cpu voltage? right now i have it at 1.5, fsb termination is 1.4v, MCH is 1.35v. i have the fsb at 300 right now, temps are getting to 56C under full load so maybe i should not push it more on the stock HSF. i added a fan on top of the northbridge heatsync.

You should be ok with that, your temps are still good. You can try backing off the voltage a little and see if it remains stable, 1.5 is a quite high for only 2.7ghz.

For reference my E6400 which is not a very good one(takes more voltage than most)

2.8ghz @ 1.375v set in bios (shows 1.30-1.32 in windows with CPU-Z under load)
3.2ghz @ 1.475v set in bios (shows 1.35-1.36 in windows with CPU-Z under load)

57 under load is fine. you probably want to get an aftermarket HSF (Tuniq Tower 120 recommended) and some AS5 though. it should drop the temps down 10-15C
