Call the police first, get this documented that people threaten to harm you. This may help you later.

I always found the idea of vests interesting in that it is not the first thing I'd be aiming at in a gun fight. Maybe I just like shooting targets in the head regardless if I'm good or successful or not. The thought of playing mind games as the recipient hears the bullets wizzing by their ears just seems like a fun thing to do before you end them.

A gun is not going to do OP any good if someone shoots him first. Though if this is real I would get the police involved, and start looking for a job in another city. Not worth living in constant fear not knowing when these guys will strike.

The question is how to ensure your safety when all that has failed.

Highland is right. When seconds count, LE is only minutes away.

How many shootings do they actually stop? All they can be reasonably be asked to do is respond quickly to the crime scene.

If you get shot while wearing a vest...assuming you get hit in a place protected by the vest...a glancing shot would be fine...but a direct hit center mass...probably gonna knock you flat on your ass...rendering you vulnerable for further attack.

This+ And don't forget that shotgun slugs will impact the wearer very hard and may even go through the Armor. High Power rifles? Might as well forget it.

Unless you're getting full on military ballistic armor, you probably won't get groin protection. If you don't want to look ridiculous, the best you'll get is a good set of level III soft vest that you can put under a baggy sweatshirt or something and that won't stop a high energy round.

Seriously though if you're on your own against a bunch of guys intent on shooting you I'm not seeing armour as the solution to your problem.

Well most certainly not your only solution. However it is a basic fact of life that sometimes the use of deadly force is warranted and required, however rare that may be.

So assuming the armour does its job and stops the bullet penetrating your squishy bits, you are now on your back gasping for breath surrounded by a bunch of guys intent on shooting you.
