Someone recommend a snow blower.

I'm thinking summer is the best time to buy a snow blower. Am I right?

What should I be looking for in a snow blower?

I'm willing to pay good money for one.

I live in New England so I want a good one.

Any recommendations?

NOT Snow Joe. They make overpriced crap.

I recommend Husqvarna, but only one with a metal auger. Plastic augers arent worth a damn, trust me.

Driveway is about 72 ft x 20 ft asphalt.

I have plenty of room in an oversize 2 car gargage.

Ariens or Snapper or Honda all make good ones. Be advised, newer engines do not really like gasoline with Ethanol in it. So it would be advisable to use Ethanol Free gas (I prefer the 91 or 93 octane, like from Shell) And since you are in a very cold climate a small amount of Dry Gas will keep moisture out of the fuel and prevent stalling when very cold. And I agree with the others about getting a steel auger. Be sure to get extra shear bolts, as they will be needed at some point. Be sure to grease the auger and drive box now and then. Depending on your property, you may want a machine with tracks or the ability to take tire chains, a good headlight is nice as well.

I have a cheap ass yard machine, it's 14 year old. Only had to replace the electric starter cuz I abused it

Ariens is a pretty good brand. Buy it now, at latest January. Hardware stores are odd when it comes to snowblowers, they don't sell them for very long and then go back to selling summer stuff even if it's middle of winter. I failed twice in a row at buying one since I was not fast enough, they only get so many per year and they sell fast.

Not a definite. Plenty of stores have the good sense to sell items BEFORE the season you need them, so the handful of intelligent people left in America have a chance to be prepared.

WTH? It's been in fuel for years. Sounds like an intentional "eff your equipment" by the manufacturers. I know of 1 place that supposedly sells ethanol free but who knows it it actually is? There's supposed to be state testing but....

Best time around here to get one is Feb\March. Go for a 2 stage, steel auger, electric start. I wasn't sure about the electric start but came across a great deal on one with pull and electric and the electric start has been amazing

When do manufacturers start making snow blowers? That would determine when they are available for sale. I mean, I personally have made a small fortune in snow blower futures but I have the inside track on this stuff.

I remember one groggy winter morning when I got up to blow the snow. I grabbed the pull start handle and gave it a good pull and I hear all this noise. Then I stood there dumbfounded as I'm looking at the snowburst mechanism in my hand carburetor linkage and all. My lawn equipment repairman said it was a common repair job since they made the handles so similar. He replaced the handle with a knob to prevent any future incidents.
