It's an insect.

A brown insect.

A brown winged insect.

A brown winged insect with a long nose.

yeah that's a pretty freaky nose isn't it??

I have caught it inside a metal tin without causing it any harm. about to go outside and let it go... whatever it is

I've always been amused as to how some of you are so clueless when it comes to nature stuff/bugs/flies/etc. I guess I'm an exception since I grew up in countryside.

I don't exactly know what it is but by the look of it, it belongs to some kind of mosquito family.

It's harmless and probably herbivorous. The long noise indicates that it probably sucks soft plant sap. If it were blood sucking, it would appear much smaller like the female mosquitoes we know.

wiki says otherwise

not all mosquitoes drink blood, nor do blood-drinking mosquitoes survive only on blood. There's a reason only the females of most of the mosquito species drink blood, and not the males.
but the species in that link doesn't drink blood at all.
mosquito hawk
resembles dragonfly's a little bit.
