The question why is it an insult for Republicans? You are closer to speaking their language then me.

I have no idea Why it would be an insult. It doesn't insult me in the least. No one I know is insulted.

They nominated Barrett who had never tried a case to verdict or appealed a case in court. And only had 2 years experience of practicing law when she was confirmed. So clearly they care about the best candidate and job qualifications....
Ouch didn’t know she was that unqualified. Right, all that mattered was that she’s a conservative Christian. And those supporters totally ignore that many on the current short list have far longer careers on the bench and are actually more qualified than the last 3 picks.

Serious question - why is anyone still laboring under the delusion that qualifications matter? These justices are selected because they hold specific beliefs about the structure and role of government. That’s it. If anything the idea that they reached these ideas through some erudite process is lending more credibility to the institution than it deserves and makes the problem worse.

Prediction: Because the next nominee will be a black woman the qualifications will suddenly be higher then for ACB.

Why are Republicans so easy to predict?

Let's be more exact. When was the last Democratic nominee with minimal qualifications? I can't think of one.

Sure, Democrats care more about qualifications than republicans do. That being said, for any given SCOTUS vacancy there are zillions of people with perfectly fine qualifications and democrats plainly choose among those based on ideology. The idea that the court is simply interpreting the law and whatever results it ends up on are the result of a carefully considered legal argument is bullshit and pretending we need super qualified people to do this just plays into the bullshit.

The Supreme Court acts as a legislative body these days and it legislates based on the personal ideology of the justices. Nothing more. Their legal reasoning is as consistent as Calvinball. The COVID mandate case is a perfect example. In other cases they claim that to interpret a law you should take the plain meaning of the statute and nothing else. In the case of the mandate the statute’s meaning was clear so they decided, based on nothing, that Congress had to more explicitly authorize this action. Why? Because they didn’t like it, not because of any law or stipulation in the constitution.

Honestly I think Biden should appoint Oprah just to show what a farce the whole thing is.

The modern public perception of the court as some sort of majestic institution above politics certainly doesn't fit at all with the actual history of the body. It benefits the Republicans to maintain this illusion since they cannot do the things the court will because they've actually got to face elections and much of their agenda is starkly unpopular.

Yeah I think the next time the GQP gets a nominee they should just cut the chase and go with Joe the Plumber.

Let's not forget that not so long ago two of the Supreme Court's justices signed on to the idea that because Congress passed a law that required people to get health insurance or else face a penalty of nothing, that penalty of $0 was unconstitutional and furthermore the rest of the law, including entirely unrelated provisions, must be invalidated due to the $0 penalty.

I would love to see someone explain to me with a straight face how that's the result of legal reasoning and is not Calvinball.

well he has the common sense so he could be a justice, surgeon general, Secretary of State, any high level role in government. Learning is for dumb asses according to the GOP’s base.

Conservatives are pretty good at behavior control. That's like their whole jam.

Why are Republicans so easy to predict?

It does not matter who the nominee or whatever happens during hearings is because the GOP has tainted the well.
If she makes it through the nomination process, discussion about her will ALWAYS include references to affirmative action. It will always be stressed that Democrats are the reason why affirmative action exists. It will always be stressed that anyone selected through affirmative action is inherently unqualified because the presumption is that affirmative action only exists to put unqualified people in positions.
It will then be hinted at that only black people benefit from affirmative action. And so continues the notion that black people are inherently unqualified therefore inherently inferior and that Democrats are destroying the country by enabling "The Blacks".
It then wraps up with affirmative action is racist towards white people and that Democrats are the true racists.
From the day she starts to the day she retires, she will always be known as the judge who got there due to affirmative action.

At best, she would need to go the Thomas route.
Stay silent for decades to let the impact of the affirmative action label fade a bit and spend her career pretending to be Alito\Thomas in her rulings and demeanor to keep Republicans from tossing out talking points against her.
Then maybe she could get the little "Not like those other uppity ones" name badges that Republicans like to hand out.

Lets not forget that when it comes to judicial nominees, the GOP has outsourced it to The Federalist society.
"Top donors include the Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation, David Koch and Koch Industries Inc., which each contributed $100,000 last year. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce contributed $500,000, according to the society’s 2016 annual report. Revenue and support totaled $26.75 million in 2016."

Also remember that the magic Federalist Society list that Republicans masturbate too is filled with people who the ABA considers 'unqualified'

Has anyone read any comments from the potential nominees? While they will say it's a honour to be considered, how many really want to put themselves and their family through this shitshow?

I'd go through that shit show in a heart beat.
I'd even read the scripts that republicans give their nominees and just bs my way through the entire nomination process.

As for my family, hell yeah. If I have to deal with a bunch of cats...which I am fucking allergic too, they gotta deal with reporters calling and crazy nutjob neighbors and their death threats.

Fucking cats

I'd even pretend to be a conservative republican whackjob to land that gig.
Day one...I'm doing exactly what ACB and Cav did
"Sike!!!"

I'd totally hang out with Kagan all day.

I am fairly fluent in it, I’ll try. Keep in mind this is not my opinion.

because other qualified candidates are being ignored if
You say “I need a (insert race or sex here) person”

I used to hold similar beliefs problem is it ignores history where 92% have been White Men. Certainly with that back drop it isn’t strange to say “I want a black woman on the court”

not one peep from Republicans when Trump nominated 9 nominees rated unqualified by the ABA to lifetime judicial seats. They just voted 7 of the 9 through. Faux outrage yet again by Republicans.

Its not Faux outrage. The outrage is real. Its based on their shitty perception of reality which has been carefully constructed since Fox news came on the air.

I guess Whoopie is off the list because of her no-no. And Kamala is busy solving the border crisis ... in Ukraine. Definitely not here.

But, congrats on the token black supreme court justice.

Because a democrat did it.
It really has nothing to do race, it's just something to be outraged about.
Because the GOP is so petty I tend to agree with you. Once upon a time race might have been a primary factor but these days with their obstructionist motivations race moves to an ancillary consideration. Now if they didn't come up with it they tend to oppose it. Ordering office supplies at the capitol must be a real biotch.

They will say and do everything in their power to oppose a Democrat. That would, of course, be one of the methods employed.

Keep in mind that when Bush wanted to nominate a black woman to the SC Biden said they would filibuster the nomination. None of this crap is new, it's just magnified.

Whenever any question concerning her qualifications come up the standard answer should be...

"I'm more qualified then the last person placed on the SCOTUS bench."
