Guild went to pieces.

Guildmaster put a message on the board saying I was in charge now, run it better than he did.

I check the roster, all 60 some members are gone except me and a noob. The noob was promoted to leader. He's on right now and wont talk to me.

No explanation in mail form or anything as to what happened or why.

BUT, the S.O.B. did clear out the guild bank of almost every damn thing, a good chunk of which was my loot.

Sometimes people are weird.

Great, the noob doesnt even speak english. Why is he on one of the American servers?
He doesnt know how to promote me to Leader so I can clean up this mess.
I think he's running everything I say thru google translate or something.

I AM A NOOB!

A noob who was left in charge but not promoted to leader.
Got a mail back fromt he old leader. He said it was too much work. But that doesnt explain why he booted everyone else except me. And forgot to leave me with the permissions.

I wanna shut it down properly if no one is going to be in it. But I cannot even do that.

ARGGH!

Heh, I have seen that happen to a few guilds before. Never one I was in, though. You have to keep the basic principle in mind that some large percentage of the people in every guild are socially broken.

Teach the noob English. Rebuild the guild with noob as your right hand man. Dominate the server! Take revengence on the past leader who hath wronged thee!!

Or just play a better game, whatever floats your boat :|

I can accept that, which explains why people come and go randomly.
But the guild master had his head together. And he gave a reason for leaving the guild. But not why he put me in charge without the leadership permissions.

Anyway, I'll join a new guild today. One with so many people that hopefully this doesnt happen again.

Heh. I was in a server's largest guild in SWG back in the day. It was a really dumb RP guild full of carebear retards but with the sheer number of members it was really easy to find folks to do dungeons with and trading for otherwise expensive items was a breeze. The politics, like every guild that gets big, was stupid but as long as you could avoid the constant roller coaster of hurt feelings and BS, then you were ok.

One day the leader pooped his pants over something and 90% of the guild left. I was the 2nd person to /gquit at a guild hall meeting and, as I was teleported outside due to building permissions, another 40-50 (I dunno, maybe more, it was a massive sea of nameplates) people teleported outside right after me sans guild tag.

I lol'd and joined some other guilds that were quality>quantity that are still well known to this day in SWG circles.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if other SWGers were to recognize the guild tag of the monster terribad RP guild if I said it, but I'm too embarrassed to admit that I was part of it.

Is this behavior even legal? I'm not an online gamer and thus have never joined a guild, but I get tons of offers to join groups or guilds through Steam for no reason I can see. That makes me wonder if some (maybe all) of these offers are guild miners. Get a bunch of people to join a guild, build up in-game loot, then kick everyone off at one time and sell loot access for actual dollars. Or is this just my suspicious nature?

Several things

1. Some people want ghost guild just for the Guild Vault.
2. Gold miners would need to speak English and completely destroy their hourly haul to become a GM of a guild big enough to get a good bag of money and loot when self destructing the guild.
3. I have had GM accounts hacked and guild vaults cleared that way. But then a ticket and a couple days later it's back.
4. When you put stuff into the guild bank. You are basically making a donation to the guild and therefore the GM who is the only one with unfettered access. He isn't a President or Prime Minister, he a dictator no matter how nice he is. So if he goes ape crap, there isn't much recourse.

I never had that happen on WoW, but had a leader completely just abandon our group in Clash of Clans. He didn't transfer leadership, just suddenly quit playing altogether with no warning or anything. Since he didn't transfer ownership we had to abandon the clan and create a new one. The new leader was more aware of the problems caused by doing that, so when she got tired of the game, she handed off leadership to a different person so the transition was much smoother.

Seems like an efficient way for a dishonest person to enjoy a game and pocket some real cash when he decides to move on then. Are Guild Masters' real identities not tracked?

Few years ago I wouldn't have thought twice about it. But with the advent of people making actual money off of gold mining and Second Life activities, makes me wonder if some people are cashing out, even if that's not their primary purpose in the game (because if I'm understanding you correctly, it would be a less efficient way of earning real money than gold mining.) Going by Smackababy's example, that would be roughly $750 from just one individual. Of course, given your characteristic of loot banked being a donation I'm assuming that only a small part would go to the guild, but a small part from a bunch of people adds up - would be the Walmart of Guild Masters in more ways than one.

Guild politics are why I stick to solo endgame and PUGs.

Easier to start your own guild and populate it yourself. If shit goes south at least you are the one left holding the goodies and if you do a good job shit doesn't go south.

Use to happen all the time in WoW, not as much nowadays.

I was in a raiding guild that imploded at the end of BC. The douchebag GM and his mates, Auzzie guild, made like bandits one day taking everything in the bank and left the rest of us in the lurch.
