Well it appears there are different manufactures/version of this adapters. Some usb powered for 2.5 drives (Rosewill) and some external powered (newertech). Personally I would stay away from usb powered ones. I once had a usb powered 2.5 enclosure that would power up some drives a some others not, plus some drives exceed the 500ma current specification of the usb bus.
That's the one I got from Geeks, works great!Originally posted by: nomadh
Heres something similar at geeks for $15 and the shipping is flatrate $1.99 for orders > $20. Look for the code
looks like it does all 3 interfaces and cd/dvd compat.

Does anyone know if these will work with the drive plugged into a standard 4-pin molex coming off of the PSU? Or do you need to use the external power adapter?
i don't see why that wouldn't work

I never knew these existed. They would be super handy when you needed them...
Now... will I ever need one?

There are two different hard drives I'd like to be able to connect (not at the same time), and the best way I know to get them connected:
ATA/IDE 2.5" internal laptop drive - Geeks through USB 2.0 at 480Mbps
SATA II 3.5" internal desktop drive - Vantech through eSATA at 3Gbps (eSATA supporting motherboard); Vantech or Geeks through USB 2.0 at 480Mbps
Can anyone verify that my understanding is correct?
Does anyone know of an adaptor that will function like the Vantech enclosure?
Is extending a cable from a SATA II motherboard port outside of the case to connect stuff bad? One eSATA port is an option on the P5B MB I'm looking at, but I want to make sure so I don't try to be creative and ruin something.
