And this wasn't even in the USA! America, you owe me at least one hour of my life. You and your smoking towers, build them a little sturdier next time.

I was in middle school (8th grade at the time). The first two periods we were discussing the event and watching it unravel on TV. Sometime during second period the dumbass principals made everyone turn off the TVs. That's the wussification of America at its finest. We ended up talking about it in most classes, but it still pissed and pisses me off that the principals made us turn it off. I remember in geography the year after, all we did when the Iraq war started, was watdch the news.

I'm a high school teacher and another teacher came into my class and said to turn on the TV, we were watching and talking about it for a few minutes and then saw the second plane hit. Near the end of the next class the principal tells us that the central office had sent a fax saying not to let the students watch it on TV and not to talk about it with them. I'm teaching American History and I'm not supposed to let my kids watch or discuss with them a huge event in our history as it's unfolding live on our TVs!!!?? Not the American Education system's finest hour for sure.

I remember the day very well. I woke up late (college freshman), turned on the computer and hit up ATOT. I see all these threads about it, thinking this can't be real. I went to the TV in the lounge and there were a group of people around it and they told me what happened.

i disagree. i think a lot of people care and are frankly quite concerned about North Korea's progressing nuclear capabilities and blatant disregard for the outside world's demands.

Yes, just look at all the progress that has been made on global warming.

everyone knows global warming is a farce.

I am reminded of this cause of the lighthearted way people are making fun of North Korea's nuclear weapons.

I wonder how many cities it will take to be destroyed before people stop acting like nothing happened.

(ps I still think Bush was somehow if not fully responsible, at least partly. This isn't about me saying who's at fault though. It's about people's indifference.)

That's why the people were careless and acting light-hearted. Don't judge all by the actions of those morons.

My mother called my cell and woke me up. I was at Mississippi State Univeristy. I walked into my dorm common area and everyone was just dazed.

I think the North Korea situation is entirely different. One, they haven't attacked us, and two there is currently diplomacy working to correct the situation. Ever heard of the multi-party talks they are having? I think a lot of people overestimate North Korea and their intentions. They are like a child, and they play with their missiles anytime they don't get what they want. But, that's all they do. Throw a tantrum. It pisses Japan off to no end -- and the US -- but I really don't see NK as that much of a military threat. TOO many people want that area to suceed and be stable. Including China.

As we saw today, NK is nowhere nearing ready to launch missiles at the US. And, I really don't think they will ever launch at Japan. There's too much for them to lose even though they don't have much. Kim-Jong just got pissed that his drug funds and weapon export funds got frozen. That's the root of the "current" flare-up. So, he's gonna pitch his little tantrum, we will throw him some cash and some food, and then he will go back to being a dumbass. You think China wants nukes that near their border? You think they want bad relations with the rest of Asia or the world? They WANT to keep NK in line, and they certainly have as much to lose if not more than Japan or the US.

Should we allow NK to develop nukes? Absolutely not. However, there is irrational fear being spread that they are days away from nuking LA or Tokyo. That's not the case in the slightest. Virtually all of NK's GDP is going to fund the military and their weapons programs. This is currently the only way (testing missiles) that they can get some aid thrown their way. Sure, that gives them more time to develop their weapons, but it also gives way to more creative diplomatic solutions. I think the UN, Japan, the US, and China are taking this situation seriously. The American public, however, need not be so concerned. There's bigger threats -- namely economic ones -- and natural disasters.

I think there's a current ploy in this country of overselling military rhreats to the public. We shouldn't be living in fear. We already did that during the cold war. What we should be doing is continuing to pressure NK, China, and others to continue the talks and reach a resolution. If anything, I compare the situation to Castro/Cuba. Did he ever launch or allow the missiles to remain? Nope. Kruschev pulled them back, and Castro has been suffering ever since. But the "Cuban" threat was massively hyped for YEARS. Now, there's hardly an American scared of Cuba. We just need to continue what we are currently doing and seek a diplomatic and economical solution. Being trigger happy isn't going to help us.

It was my senior year in HS, I found out in chapel when the priest announced that America was underattack, that there had been planes crashing into the WTC and the Pentagon..my friend and I went to his house to watch it during our next two study halls.

Ever think that those other college kids hadn't heard the news yet?

I can't speak for others, but I'm personally concerned because I have no clue what their intentions are. I hope they have a few good people in power capable of standing strong enough to prevent a stupid war.

I woke up late in my dorm room (college freshman) and got online. My friend in Australia IMed me telling me what happened. I didn't believe him until I pulled up the headline on a few reputable news sites. Administration shut down the campus and had several different gathering points for students to talk/pray/watch the news/ etc.

I think North Korea is just attention whoring. It's the computer nerd wandering into a bad neighborhood whilst brandishing two Glocks and talkin' street trash to everyone he sees. Oh yeah, he all bad'n'sh1t, yo. He gonna get himself in a bit of trouble, that's all.
They have to know full well that if they send any kind of nuclear projectile at any part of the US, we have the capability to completely decimate their country without breaking a sweat, and I don't know that that's the outcome that they want. It's like jabbing a giant's foot with a dagger. Yeah it stings him like hell for a little bit, but he'll just get pissed off and stomp his foot once. Bam, your village is crunched.

I was in high school when it happened. A friend came in and told me a plane had flown into the world trade centers in New York. I looked up more info, and figured out just how serious it really was. Only a few teachers would let us talk about it. The rest said "This is class time, you can talk about that later."

She taught World Issues.
