I really hope it's just tweaking it. Like a new UI and updated cutscenes. Tweak it to use some modern 3D effects for spells and lighting. Support for modern resolutions etc. Hopefully it's not a total overhaul.

I'm really curious to find out what that means.

If they have access to all of the files that contain cut material from the original game and restore it that would be phenomenal.

If they're simply updating it by dumbing it down, slapping a new coat of paint on it, and making it arcadey that would be terrible.

Maybe when the Xvart villagers attack you it'll become a tower defense mission.

Got the original on 4 discs a while ago. Picked up Throne of Bhaal right when it came out.

Got it again on DVD with the Forgotten Realms collectors pack.

Now will have it once more.

fifth I think for me. disks died on the first version. On disk got lost in second version. "Miss-placed" the entire third set (only to find them later) and bought a fourth set.

if they redo BG to bring it up to speed to modern day - with modern graphics, modern control systems, and use the same story retold in a slightly more detailed way....awesome.
for some reason i never played either.

but if they add widescreen support....add voices, and make combat stupid, meh.

I've started Icewind Dale 2 at least 3 times, and petered out after a few chapters every time.

I don't know why. It just doesn't hold my attention like the other games did.

So here's my question...is this remake or enhanced edition or whatever, going to be close enough in story to the old Baldur's Gate that I should just wait for it? Since, of course, I did not play the original BG?

There is (of course) rampant speculation. Anywhere from a new graphics engine to Ipad revamp.

Personally, I hope that they take the resolution up to present day standards, but keep the same engine. I hope that they broaden the scope of the game and add in some extra quests. Hope they fix some of the "Reused" areas, though this is a small hope. And possibly add in some new companions.

But most of all, I hope they don't change the overall game/gameplay to any significant degree. And I hope to the gods that they do NOT try and shoehorn 3.5e rules (or worse yet 4e) on the thing. What a disaster that would be. 3.5e rules are ok, but not for this game.

Can't see why they wouldn't have access. You can already get access to the cut material by installing the "unfinished business" packs out in the mod communities.

I just started a second play of BG1 (I've never played BG2) using an EasyTutu install and several mods (none of which seriously changed the original story/game play).

I'm wondering if I should quit now and wait for this to come out instead! Need more details NOW!!

Infinity engine was the engine used for the originals (and IWD and PST). so I don't think that is "Significant" other than it probably means we are talking about enhancement to the engine rather than a whole new one.

This is what I'm predicting. Same engine, higher resolutions, maybe a slight gui re-working, modern OS support, and probably a little something to extend its replayability while we wait for them to do the same thing to bg2.

BG1 had an expansion right? Tales of the Sword Coast or something like that? I wonder if this will be included as this is actually the only piece of the entire franchise that I have never played.
