Something is happening with Baldur's Gate! *Update* Ipad *cough*

From the photos it doesn't really look all that enhanced as far as I can tell. If it really were, they would have posted real screen shots by now. Pretty sure this is just just an ipad port with maybe a couple interface tweaks. Kind of a let down after all the hype of the countdown, but still cool.

EDIT: If I remember correctly there is only 1 (ONE) pure playable npc cleric in bg2 and she is evil aligned. I'm guessing this is something they are going to fix since they did say something about adding new playable npcs. Potions are expensive, and healing is hard to come by. To have a good party, I think it's almost necessary to start a passworded multi-player game and make 2 characters (one your own, and one a cleric) and assign them both to your party.

There is no need for that, there is plenty of healing to go around. There are a couple of ranges, 2 good/neutral dual class clerics, a dual class druid, a full druid, and there is a paladin. I played through the game without any difficulties without Viconia.

Ok, I have to say this is pretty fuckin cool, considering my wife just ordered me an ipad to replace my dropped and destroyed transformer prime last night. If I hadn't dropped it, I'd be one sad panda.

Just make the f-ing game! People who are going to buy this are going to be mostly classic rpg'ers who couldn't give a shit about being on an ipad. If anything, putting in on Linux seems like a better idea to me than this.

I feel kind of like I did after playing Dark alliance. Core audience are NOT Ipad users. so this went from a decent idea to a snatch and grab for a few extra bucks.

You know there is a "good" romance ending for Viconia, right? You can convince her to become good in ToB.

That's not what I am referring to. There are two possible epilogues after ToB for Viconia, her alignment doesn't influence them. Don't want to write too much for people who didn't play yet (are there people like that? )

I have actually finished with both Keldorn and Viconia in my party. Sure I had to reload a few times just due to conflict, but it is just about possible to keep both alive.

resting is your friend.

can't say i really had issues with potions, and i always play on insane (except the time i did a solo run with the monk).

anomen is a dual class fighter/cleric who gets plenty of heals
viconia is the pure cleric.

my party usually went like this:

me (monk/god)
minsc
keldorn
anomen
(1 person i cant think of)
and a mage, preferably edwin, but he sometimes didnt jive with my party.

I always liked playing a monk. They started a little weaker than other classes, but they became nearly godlike near the end game and were completely unstoppable in ToB.

They need to release some real information though, exactly what's 'enhanced', whats been updated, screen shots, etc.

and conversely, bg is not for the typical tablet casual gamer. this is a complex game with a high frustration factor.

Yes, but it never had a flashy countdown...

The Infinity Engine port GemRB can already play Baldur's Gate on tablets and phones anyway, so if that was true, it would just be completely anti climactic.

WTF are you talking about. If anything Baldur's Gate is a great match for tablets.

1. You can play the entire game beginning to end by just a mouse if you wanted to.
2. It's top down.
3. You can pause anytime during combat.

Pehaps the grand master plan was

1) appease the legions of BG fans by announcing some sort of nebulous "enhanced" edition. Get everyone as worked up as possible with a mysterious countdown.

2) slip in the ipad thing as an "afterthought".

My bullcrap meter just spiked. What is this "enhanced" content we're going to get? A few fetch-it quests?

Screw it. I'll probably still buy it.

Well their real goal is to make BG III, but, I'm sure they have to prove to Atari that they can sell a game first. Considering how shallow 95% of tablet games are, this could potentially be a big hit, which brings us all closer to BG III becoming real.

At the very least it is a game where the core market is primarily Gamers. Most 'Gamers' don't consider Ipad a true gaming platform. I would go so far as to suggest that most Ipad gamers are more about Angry Birds, Tetris, Bejeweled and Facebook games than anything even remotely close to a true RPG.

I am not saying there isn't an overlap. merely that the cross section between RPG gamers and Ipad gamers will significantly limit the purchase.

Understand that the reason most Ipad games are so shallow is because that is what the Ipad gamer market is generally interested in. 95% of Ipad gamers won't have any interest in BG1.

It's like trying to sell a Yugo with a corvet chasis into the High performance Muscle car demographic.

So I revise my former statement. The only way I am not buying this game is if I am dead... or if they keep it an Ipad application.
