Something that will use my dual core

I've had a dual core for about 1.5 months now (opteron 175) and and pretty un-impressed. I consider myself to be a pretty big multi tasker and a huge gamer. Now quake 4 saw a huge increase from the additional core, but other than that the gains have been minimal.

Are there any apps that I can play around with other than graphics apps that will highlight the performance of this guy?

And before someone brings up OMGponies! dual core is not for gaming, I know that, but I am fairly certain they will be in the future

What are you asking, at the moment it looks like you just want a program to run it, then run it on a single core and grin that it's faster the first way round.

DVD shrink'll use both cores.

DVD shrink uses em, but it comes nowhere near maxing them out. And yeah, its pretty much just a "see what mine can do" kinda thing

DVDshrink will make very good use of dual core if you dont have a HDD subsystem that limits it....

I did a test and found ripping first then DVDshrink from HDD was the fastest and allows 2 cores to be pretty damn pegged...look at the times from 1 core to 2 cores....

Needs to be cpu intensive apps and not apps all competing for the same HDD access....

....but other than that the gains have been minimal.

I have a hyper-theaded CPU, and Shrink hammers it pretty much 100%. My HDD subsystem is RAID 0.

non RAID...I have screen picks that showed my 4400+ would not hold 100% when I was using SATA HDD's in non RAID....was like 85-90%...still very effective for SMP aware app...

I use RAID 0 as well and it was the first time I saw it hold 2 cores pegged at 100% (or in my 4 core case 50%)....

So, Shrink hammers my CPU at practically 100% thanks to my R0? Otherwise, it wouldn't use up quite as many CPU resources? I'm not running with quite the hardware that you have.

Shrink hits 100% on both cores for me for most (but not always all) of the decode/encode time. I'm using a single raptor 74.

Try running DVD Shrink/DVD-RB & your fave game simultaneously

You may have to set affinity on each for this to work smoothly.
