CNN is reporting that a plane was "awfully close" to the shuttle before the explosion, but it sounds like coincide to me since the videos dont show anything to that nature.
planes dont fly at 200,000 ft

That is the one thing I hate about watching breaking news. Too much speculation, too little fact, and too many people trying to "break" the news story.
At least I haven't heard too much speculation about it being a terrorist attack.

I think it's crashed. I live in Tampa, and I didn't hear the sonic boom, and I hear it everytime it lands here.

There's more than one space station .
I'm in Houston, pretty near Johnson. Just woke up, so I haven't seen or heard anything.
Not the best news to start the day with.

My condolences go out to the 7 families who lost a family member today. This is going to be a big loss for the program and the ISS. This kills the schedule for the ISS and will probably be called to question again. I was actually watching this launch more then the others because they were getting a lot of experiments done.
Man, that shuttle is older than I am, I would never imagine that a 21 year old shuttle would still be in service!Columbia is the oldest of NASA's shuttle fleet, first launched in 1981. It was on its 28th mission.

ISS is not an issue, they can come to Earth with the Sojus capsule - may be safer anyway.

There are astronauts in the ISS now, aren't they? They cannot ground the fleet for too long or they will run out of supplies in the ISS? How long after challanger was the fleet grounded?
