But Fry's is a nice library for all kinds of technical books, not just computer books.

Be glad you don't work there -- I've read that they pat down the employees every day.

damn bolomite, that was too funny! I have seen those generic pieces of junk. Hey my dad went to fry's to get ram, the sales man told him that pc 133 ram would not work with his Celeron. What kind of crap is that! It works with PC100 and not PC133! Next thing you know they'll sell you PC66 Ram for 5x more!

I moved from chicago to L.A. last year. There is nothing like frys in most states so you L.A. jerks should quit your complaining.

Best buy, compusa, frys all suck when it comes down to the service from employees. but Frys is a GREAT store because they have the best selection out there and have the best return policy. Where else can you "testdrive" a computer or laptop for 30 days and return it without a restocking fee. If youre gonna complain about a crappy company complain about compusa. now those are bastards.

<< Be glad you don't work there -- I've read that they pat down the employees every day. >>

*sigh* as a former employee, very true.

actually I remember once that a memo came out to all employees saying that they will monitor how many items you buy on associate purchase (discount). an exact line was "now who really needs 5 motherboards?" when I quit i told my friends to go have a field day.

and NO i was NOT a salesperson. I was a cashier and I moved up to customer relations, where I answered the phones and dealt with all your problems... I have found that most people have complaints over the salespeople and not the cashiers...

I always like how they treat you like a criminal...

Anyway, I bought a TNT 2 graphics card there (best data) and it kept blanking out and losing sync. Well I returned it and the (oh-my-god) nice lady at the return desk said "oh. that's the 5th one today" and labled it to put back on the shelf. Well I go to find another one and every single damn one was a return. Okay fine. BUT THEY RAISED THE PRICE BY $20! WTF were they thinking???

Fry's... ahh... the good ol' days.

they do have a website its "www.frys.com"
Fry's Electronics
by the way they are starting off as an ISP too.. god how will those hold up..

Anyway we have a corporate account at fry's just because we were 5 minutes from the burbank location (when we were at burbank we moved the company to pasadena)

Anyway their billing systems are so screwy .. our accouting dept. had a hard time dealing with them. We as a corporation gave them about 100,000$ for the year atleast, and we get the worst service known to man kind. Atleast I know most of the employees there so I get preffered discounts, which is nice. The worst thing is that the last time I went there I had taken a PO(purchase order) with me, and they refused to take it even though the address was the same. The PO I took was for IDI (our other part of our company) and they could clearly see SVFX's name undernedth.. however they didnt take it and I had to pay it on my credit and have the copmany refund me on it. I am planning to get a account at CompUSA since they are now closer to us, and atleast they have most of what I want, though the selection is pretty poor I can still avoid most of the time of going to frys.

can you really try out a computer or a laptop and return it without paying restocking fee?

I've had so many bad experiences with Fry's that it would really end up taking up this entire board. The word incompetent doesnt even begin to describe their employees.

Not to be racist or anything but why is the staff at fry's like 95% indian? Do they have some sort of New Dehli to California tube or something?

Whenever I am in Comp USA I look at all the merchandise for a given price.
This is especially true with software, but is often true with mice or keyboards as well. If I'm looking ofr a game, I file through all of the copies of it and check all the prices. They often mark the new games down to 30.00 for promotional purposes and they are often stuck in the back.

When I get to the counter and it rings up something other than the price, I tell them I was planning to buy it for the price on the box. So far they always sell it to me for that price.

I knew there was a benefit in having a staff that was basically useless. I imagine when it is time to remark the merchandise, they mark a few and move on. NIce work boys!

Fry's doesn't price mark their advertised specials - I bought a sound card a few weeks ago that was marked 19.99 only to have it rung up at 12.99 - noticed afterward that it was advertised at that price...

I have since taken to reading their ads and going there for the super specials (ie - last week they had speakers for 99 cents) - I used to ridicule my mom for going to different grocery stores just because each one had different specials... now I'm doing the same thing more or less

Let the Frys bashing continue. I once ran into a saleman who made a racist comment.:Q I was pretty ticked off even though he could have said a lot worse. He deduced that because I was Chinese, I could afford something that I didn't need. Must have been part of his great sales pitch to get me to buy a more expensive model.:disgust:

frys should remove all unnecessary overhead (aka. those employees) and pass on more deals to the customers

Well it me who started this tread, had to dig up this thread to do some more bragging and to let you guys on another deal at Fry's.

I just came back from Fry's in Manhatten Beach, CA with another deal. Seems that Fry's has mispriced the Evil Dead II THX Limited Edition Tin for $24.99, this is the price of the new anchor bay release of Evil Dead II, not the Limited Edition Tin that should be $39.99. I picked up the last 2 (at this Fry's), both price tag said $24.99 so it was not just a 1 time misprice, could be other Fry's did the same thing. They also had a Limited Edition Tin of Repoman for $29.99 with a small ding in the tin's side (also mispriced I believe) but since I enjoyed the Evil Dead II so much more I didn't bother to get it. Hope you people that missed out on the preorder price, and still want one, can find one for this price. Now if I could just find a deal on Brazil Criterion Collection, I missed the Amazon $19.99 misprice. Or if someone who got in on the Amazon Brazil $19.99 deal and wants to trade the Criterion Brazil (doesn't matter if it is used as long as everything is there and it is in mint condition with no scratches or fingerprints on the 3 DVD's) for a sealed Evil Dead II Limited Edition Tin DVD #11023 you can e-mail me at H8nXTC@hotmail.com

I've been to Fry's twice and I haven't bought anything from there. I hate that place. It's pure evil. There is an employee on every aisle and they are all idiots which leads me to a few questions.

1) How can a single store hire so many stupid people? Just by probability they should have at least a few decent employees right? Do they just do mass hiring? Like first 100 people to line up get jobs?

2) Why do you guys keep going there? Don't tell me the deals are great because they aren't! You can find just the same deals online or at Best Buy. It's like lemmings walking into the pits, climbing out, complaining. Then guess there they go next week after gettig directions from the Grand Lemmming (AKA Sunday Ad)? Back into the hole!

Fry's is a great place to rent hardware and use it for a "trial" period! so if you want to test drive a vid card or something, get it from there! sure it takes 2 hours to return the product, but its good to try out items before you buy them online!

Yes, yes, soyboy...

I would have never "rented" my Herc. GForce II 64MB, if I couldn't have brought it back in a week. That would a waiste of money for that $420 overpriced POS. Now getting a A-I-W Radeon for about half that elsewhere.

I heard that Fry's was getting a new slogan:

"Fry's, where we cheat the other guy and pass the savings on to you!"

Yes, even though it is illegal to search someone after you have paid for your product and someone refuses to let them look at your reciept or merchandise.

Fry's has got the worst CS on the planet. Half their staff is filled with HS dropouts who think the way to fix a mouse is to call an exterminator. Don't bother asking anyone there a question because tell just give you the standard, "hmm...lets see what it says on the box". I have not found one employee at Fry's even remotely helpful. Fry's has decent prices, but chances are, you're gonna end up with an item that has already been returned by someone. In many cases, I have found that for many items, the shelves are full of returned purchases, with no new box in sight. Luckily, I don't have to rely on the CS at Fry's. I just get my shiz and head out, but for those of you who don't know what you're doing, or are just looking for some expertise, Fry's is not the place for you. They're more worried about selling sodas and snacks than good customer service. And whats the deal with the lines? Do they really need to pay a guy on a stepladder to watch cashier's hold up numbers so they can redirect you towards them? Out...
