this broke my heart....prayers to your family and your little girl. Glad to hear things getting better.

My little daughter was life-starred to the hospital when she was 1-1/2 ( I was 40 miles away when it happened). Longest ride of my life and I lost it when I saw her in her neck brace with the look of "help me, I'm scared". That image is scarred into my brain and go back to that day when I start to get frustrated when she spills something or writes on the walls......it's just a wall.

Now, if she would just SLEEP!

This was the best part - ! As I was reading your post, I'll admit, I got a little teary eyed as I kept reading.. It's a relief that you can now worry about the 'normal things a proud and good father has to worry about

- but at the same time, thank you for sharing Olivia's condition. It actually made my day.. Hopefully you can get back to your backyard project.!

glad to see she is doing well. if only she were a Cubs fan then I could set her up with a crazy 15 month old.

sucks about the scars but it is a reminder that she fought and won for as long as she sees them.

I wish you'd post your updates inline, so we don't have to hunt for them.

Update 08/08/2012

Just thought I would post a quick follow up for those who might still be following or interested in Olivia's story.

Two and a half months post op, and Olivia is doing incredibly well. Although she is still very underweight (she's a whopping 12lbs), she is in the 75th percentile for length. Motor skills, cognitive skills, etc. all seem to be fine. She will always have the scars from the surgery, but all in all they aren't too bad either (would post pics, but I don't have them).

Anyway, here are some pics showing her progresss post op:

detached from all tubes and almost ready to go home

1 month post op - I can sit up!

Two months post op. Ok, I'm just darn cute.

Now, if she would just SLEEP!

Thanks again to everyone on this site who supported me. Olivia's ordeal was easily the toughest thing I have ever had to cope with in my life, and it was nice to know that a bunch of people cared, even if it was a (for the most part) a bunch of internet pseudo-strangers. You guys and gals are good people. Even the trolls. Thanks again.

Wonderful!! What a cutie.

In the sims I used to watch my previously productive family die, even if I dedicated a family member entirely to the baby...

I thought the game was being ridiculous, and then I had children of my own!

(turns out that they take MORE time and effort the older they get!)

bump for update 08/08/12

Welcome to the club! I mean that in the nicest of ways. You will be astounded at the amount of energy your little one will display. Be prepared for a full onslaught of running, running and more running. My little girl can run circles around me now.

sucks about the scars but it is a reminder that she fought and won for as long as she sees them.

the scars heal very well. We see the thinnest line, just barely visible. My daughter is so proud of her "battle scar".

Glad to hear. I actually just re-read this about a week ago as a buddy of mine just found out that his unborn daughter may also have a hole in her heart. I sent him the link to this thread.
