long story short, my right arm gave out while doing military press. Weight shifted to the right side causing my right arm to over twist. At first I brush it off, did R.I.C.E. took NSAIDs and rest. But as I try to do a corkscrew motion, i feel a pop on my ulnar.

At the moment I'm wearing a wrist splint. then there is no sign inflammation, bruising/discoloration. Just pain when I bear load with my palm open and turn in a corkscrew fashion.

Sigh

**3/28/2011**

So I met my doc got it checked out with a full wrist examination, did ROM and other diagnostic test. I feel no pain atm and was able to do my ADLs without a problem. The doctor later told me that I just sprained my wrist on my TFCC (Grade I) and perscriped me a splint to let it rest 3-4 weeks.

What a relief !

Question - does loading your wrist with your hand in a fist (like a push-up on your knuckles) aggravate your symptoms? The corkscrew motion can include a LOT of different structures. Either way, you should probably go get it checked out. It could be a whole lot of things - none of them good. The wrist is too complicated to try to evaluate on your own. Hope it feels better, man. I know how frustrating injuries are.

Please get this checked out. I had a similar injury doing overhead presses with dumbbells (I lost control of the left DB and it went back over my shoulder) two years ago. I went to a couple of PTs; it turns out I had a minor tear. Had to rest it and keep up with some ROM exercises. My shoulder still hurts occasionally, but recovery could have turned out worse without their help and advice.

when I do a push up with just my fists only. It felt normal without any pain, but as soon I push up with my palm open, then it hurts on my right side.

I'll keep you guys updated.

You'd feel increased or same symptoms if it were the TFCC. Since it's a cartilaginous structure, compression should bother it and distraction should alleviate the pain. It sounds more like a subluxation of a carpal bone than a TFCC injury. Either way, you've gotta get it checked out.

In response to your update: you cannot sprain cartilage. You can tear cartilage or degenerate cartilage... you cannot sprain it. You can only sprain ligaments. Did you visit your general practitioner or an orthopedist? General practitioner docs are some of the worst when it comes to diagnosing musculoskeletal injuries. The orthopedist could've given you a true diagnosis and would've referred you to physical therapy, rather than immobility (which will cause its own problems).

EDIT: Came off like an ass - just typed my thoughts out as quickly as I could. Sorry about that, man. Did he say it was something around the TFCC? Maybe radioscaphoid or radiolunate ligaments?

I met the orthopedist (by referal ), he mentioned that sprained dorsal/radio-ulndar ligament. I'm gonna learn several wrist exercises so I prevent my wrist from being stiff just to be safe.
