Just got this case, and it wont be directly over the CPU, bout 1/2 to 3/4 over it no matter how i adjust it.

My question should i use the vent with both fans? I'd think yes, i mean its 2 extra fans exhausting hot air? Thoughts?

i would use both fans, but im not sure if the air duct on the Sonta II is supposed to used as an exhaust duct. I think it might be made for intake and blow cooler outside air toward the gpu and cpu. It doesnt really make much sense to grab warm air from the cpu then try to channel it down the duct then outside the case.

Nope, its an exhaust vent, the way its supposed to work is the vent is supposed to be directly over the CPU and the fan would suck all hot air into vent and it would exit out. But since is only covers between 1/2 to 3/4 of the CPU, im wondering if i should still install it or would it be better without it. Then there is another 80mm fan that goes by the Videocard.

I'm not 100% of the config without seeing in person, but you could maybe modify the duct somehow to properly cover the CPU hsf.

Either way, just test it out and see what happens. You might see an improvement, maybe not. I say test it first before listening to anyone here. I'd bet you get opinions both ways from folks on a forum like this.

The DUCT is not an exhaust. It's designed as an intake. Don't believe me? Search it up on google and the antec site. You don't have to use the duct.

Wow, guess your right... It is an intake...Just seems like a perfect exhaust system

Well, if the processor has a heatsink and fan blowing hot air up towards the vent, and the vent has a fan blowing cool air towards the other fans...that seems counter-productive

Guess ill run without

Edit: Just read alot more reviews, most say the duct isnt worth the trouble, Any Idea's on what to do with this 92mm fan i bought for it?

out of curiosity, what heatsink do you have? Most heatsinks actually blow air onto the cpu. Depending on what motherboard you have, you could always change the chipset fan (if noisy) for the 92mm fan and maybe a passive cooler.

I got the Lanpart UT Ultra won, so the 92mm fan on that is a nono, the one it comes with barely fits under my 7800gt, would be a good idea tho.

With the 2800+ i have the heatsink+fan that came with it, i guess i just thought it blew air away from it.

So, im not going to use the duct, just need more idea's for this spare 92mm fan

can't do much with the spare 92mm, might as well try it on the duct to see if there's any performance difference...

here is link to madshrimps review of sonata II case where they do extensive temperature checks with 1 fan / 2 fans / with internal cowling / without etc:

the guts is that an exhaust fan on medium and no cowling
is at least as effective a cooling solution
for the sonata II as anything else
because
only having exhaust fan (as opposed to front fan as well)
creates a better vacuum in the case
and clears hot air more efficiently
and
for whatever good the internal cowling does
it also provides an impediment
to the clear flow of air
from front of case to back
= zero gain or worse

I'm almost positive the air duct on the sonata II is an intake, as the hole for an 80mm fan over the VGA and 92mm fan over the CPU are meant for blowing. (why would it make sense to blow the hot air from the CPU back into the case over the VGA?) Either way, the duct cuts back on cooling a lot, mine is sitting somewhere in my attic, I got so damn frusterated with 45 degree idle temps on an AMD 3400+....
