So not only did STP cover Dancing Days but they blatantly ripped off the same riff for Trippin' on a Hole In A Paper Heart as well?

There are very few covers that are better than the originals in my opinion and the two off the top of my head have already been mentioned. (Watchtower by Hendrix and Little Wing by SRV).

I think I'm the only person on the planet that fucking despises Cash's cover of Hurt.. even Reznor himself adores it. I think he murdered it personally.

I agree.

I think those ones are mostly roughly as good as the originals.

I liked Cash's cover of "Personal Jesus" and "I Hung My Head."

As a huge fan of both artists, Hendrix's "All Along the Watchtower" is one of the greatest songs of all time, combining the greatest guitarist ever's greatest work with the greatest lyricist, while Dylan's is merely a second-rate track (by his standards).

Eric Clapton's "Cocaine" is possibly the only cover of J.J. Cale that beats the original. Possibly. Its the live version that gets me.

Guns 'n Roses was really ambitious in their covers, and most of them were relatively crappy with the exception of "Live and Let Die"

Dave Matthews has done some decent covers. But All Along the Watchtower is not one of them. U2's version of Helter Skelter was better than Motley Crue's.

This is a tough one that could go either way for me.. I love both versions despite my opinion of nirvana.

That cough-syrup chugged strained burnout voice sounds perfect for this song.. same goes for their meat puppets covers from that same concert.

Who did the original?

Rick Springfield wrote that one.
Nope. That was originally a Sammy Hagar tune, and Springfield's version was a cover, also.

I asked because I couldn't find any reference to anyone called Nobody's singing the song, so I thought it might be another one with the same name.

Yeah, that's a good recent one.

Liked Disturbed's version of Land of Confusion, too.

And The Ataris on Boys of Summer wasn't too bad.

I'm not a big fan of Godsmack but I'm luvin their cover of Zep's Good Times, Bad Times. Probably the best remake of a LZ tune yet.

I should qualify it as Nirvana's Live unplugged cover being superior to Bowies studio version.

I never really cared for Bowies studio version, the pop production with the morraccas and annoying ratchet just kill the soul of the song for me. On the other hand, Cobain's sparse, but extremely effective guitar and incredibly soulfull vocals just made that song (and the others on the unplugged album) come alive like I'd never heard them before.

I do like Bowie's live performances quite alot, whole different song live IMO.

All you have to do is try.
Sammy wrote it, and had it on an album. Put the song title in Google and it comes up as the second link, with the Springfield version the first.
Sammy has even made reference to Springfield covering the song and thanked him for making it a bigger hit then it was for Sammy himself.

It was on several of Sammy's albums pre-1981.

Springfield recorded it on Working Class Dog in 1981.
