errrr, no.. I wasnt saying you wouldnt need to floss. For me, I dont have to spend as much time flossing as before using Sonicare. I wasnt really sold on the Sonicare until my first dentist visit after buying it.

Hey, $60 is alot for a toothbrush.. so was 100+ when I got mine. If you have any doubts, just give your dentist a call. Be sure to tell them you're talking about the Sonicare, as all these things are not alike. You might even find that they carry it for less then anywhere else, mine now sells them at cost.

Another thing about the Sonicare is that its quality. Its totally sealed, keeps a charge for quite sometime, and I'm going on 4+ years with mine. My wife has her own heads, so thats 2 people using it for years.

If there was a downside, it would be that some people who've had extensive dental work find the sonic part uncomfortable. I guess the same way it knocks the tartar off the back of the teeth, it will also send some vibration to the nerves. I like the feeling, but I wouldnt use it if I had a toothache or something. There are rings that reduce the vibration and that helps, but some might not find the feeling enjoyable. I'm not talking fillings, I mean *extensive* work like bridges and whatnot.

Consumer reports found that regular toothbrushes CAN be as effective at removing VISABLE plaque. This finding was only among the testers who were the "best", most conscientious brushers.

Sonicare "levels the field", and significantly improves the results of the less effective brushers. (Children and anyone needing much "scraping" during cleanings are most likely to need the extra help.)

It is claimed that the ultrasonic properties of the brush can extend beyond the brush tips and loosen UNSEEN plaque. It is also claimed that the vibration stimulates and contributes to gum health. Everyone should floss.

My own experience as an adult with braces is that the Sonicare is very good at cleaning even in very difficult areas between the gums and brace brackets. It "vibrates" into the small areas that I wouldn't likely get without a lot of work with a manual toothbrush.

Always consult your dentist. Your circumstances (bridges, partials, gum problems, spaces) might need special advice (floss threaders, softer brush, proxibrush, etc.). Don?t leave your health to amateur advice.

If you have healthy straight teeth and are a very good brusher with little no scraping by the hygienist, you might save yourself $60. If not, a Sonicare is a HOT deal.

I couldn't agree more.

one of the best christmas gifts i have ever been given. at first i was pissed that i got a $100 toothbrush when what i really wanted was an xbox, but after using it just once, i was quite pleased with the gift. BEST TOOTHBRUSH EVER!!!

Seems to me, it would be an excellent way to loosen/remove your crowns/caps too...?

Perhaps that is why the dentist recommend using it?

The Sonicare manual says to change the heads every six months. Like someone posted above Sam's sells a 2 pack for $17.
I have been using mine for 2 years now and I wouldn't trade mine for a gold monkey!

what's the difference between the personal model and the elite ones? is it worth the upgrade, anything mechanical or is it just cosmetic?

see my earlier post, if you have extensive work, you'd prolly want to use the rings that reduce the amount of vibration. However I will say this, you have to be careful not to let the head of the toothbrush touch your teeth. OUCH! It wont chip a tooth or anything, but it doesnt feel good... It only happens once in a great while, if that. but you wont forget it.

I grew up back in the day when tetracycline was the big anti-biotic. The stuff was bad on the teeth so my mouth is a train wreck! full of all manner of fillings, crowns, bridges etc. and I have never had any trouble. So if you have good teeth or bad, the price of a Soni-care seems like a bargain at any price to help keep them that way!

There was a study done recently that claimed that the only electric toothbrush that provided any significant benefit over a manual toothbrush was the Braun and even it wasn't so great. The article should be on news websites so search if you like.

Yes, but I am sure if you approach the Sonicare folks, they could show you another study that says something else............. who to believe........... who to believe?

Sonicare offers a 30-day tryout. I say even if you aren't sure, try it. You will keep it.
It is as close to fresh-from-the-dentist as you can get. I was a Braun/Oral-B user for three years, grabbed a sonicare 5 months ago, and haven't ever felt my teeth as clean as they are now.
I went in for a checkup, and the hygenist asked immediately, "<scrape, scrape; 45 sec.> Bought a Sonicare, eh? There is no tartar in here. I'll polish ya and grab the dentist."

only bad thing about brushing my teeth so much is that I easily can smell other peoples breath and it is usually smellin like stincky underground railroads

Hey everyone just an FYI. My next-door neighbor is a dental hygienist and has had a sonicare for the past two years. I was interested in her opinion and she offered the same thoughts everyone repeated below, the sonicare is wonderful. However the reason for the price-drop is because they are getting ready to release the sonicare 2. My neighbor actually had a test model that had been sent to her dentist?s office. She advised me to wait for the new release, as the new model is supposedly much better.Just thought I would share </SPAN>
