This thread is exactly why I stop trying to post logical arguments. You post them, laying out in the most simplist of terms why certain actions were taken and the reasoning behind everything, and either your posts are ignored or the dumb people do not understand them.

Sigh, but what do I know about cops, firefighters, or rescue personal. I am only a silly law enforcement major, minoring in fire science with a firefighter brother and I only work in emergency service at school.

Macbaine, your heart and mind are in the right place, and you reasoned through it very well. But give it up, the stupid people always seem to overwhelm those that know what they are talking about or have some semblence of intelligence. You just repeat yourself over and over again, and no matter how many times you do it, they wont understand. They never have, and never will. Their "gut reaction" is always right and you will forever be wrong. Our original arguments still stand and shoot down their vain attempts at dislodging them, but still they go on, babbling about topics they know nothing about, without even stopping to understand what we have said.

And people wonder why Americans are considered dumb...its just because they refuse to listen.

On my final note, I do believe that the man was stupid for going into the house to save his dog. I am glad that he was successful, and that the dog is ok. But the police and the firefighters both have a job to do, and they all took the course of action that is most appropriate for the situation. My arguments for this stance have been laid out in my previous posts, and I will stop posting in this thread unless someone raises an argument worthy of my attention.

If its a child, he's brave, if its a dog, he's stupid. That won't sit well with many dog owners who are seeing their beloved pet about to burn to death.

I just saw the video... and that sure looked like a barbell to me. It's hard to see details from the camera's distant, but why couldn't it be? Mine looks exactly like that. And why would a firemen's hook be laying on his balcony when they haven't even been up there yet?

You could say the same thing about any fireman that would go into a burning house to save a cat/dog/etc. Or a cop that decides to get into a firefight with a fleeing perp. We all take risks everyday. We take risks everytime we get into a car or on an airplane.

This guy took a risk at saving a family member and saved the dog's life. Now leave the man alone!!

i watched the video and i noted MANY people said they had pets in the building. The cops basically told EVERYONE to stay back and only ONE person went after his dog.

What if others saw it and said, HEY i have pets in there to. let me go after MY pet.

would you have been pleased with the site of 10 to 15 (numbers out of my ass) go after their pets?? Do you imagine that ALL of those people would have made it safely??

If it was ONE house, ONE owner and ONE pet, mb it could be overlooked, BECAUSE it was an APARTMENT COMPLEX, MANY OWNERS and MANY PETS, you just cannot condone that type of action.

Dog = alive
Man = alive
Police = safe
Fireman = safe (b/c they didn't go after the dog in the first place)

End of story. Enough with theories and bullcrap. That's how it ended and it was a great result IMHO.

They've got the guy on the Today Show right now. He was at the store when he got a call saying his apartment was on fire. Then he rushed back to see his dog throwing himself up against the glass door.

He asked the fireman to help his dog. One of them told him that he could get another dog...dogs die everyday!:|

And get this!! The police department released his prior arrest record to the press. WTF!!!!??? What does that have to do with him saving his dog's life?? :|:| That's just dirty!

You're not drawing a parallel between pets as constituents of your family, and that is blatantly obvious. Keep in mind that not everyone is like you, and that many people value their pets as family...

He was very fortunate he did not kill anyone. He is not a firefighter. Imagine if he had busted out the patio window which then created a backdraft to where some firefighters were. Believe it or not there is a science to fighting fires. This story could have turned out much worse. Imagine if his actions caused a firefighter to die or get seriously burned. Then you would all be hanging this guy out to dry.

Backdraft was a great movie and the Fire Department only brought up that issue to make up an excuse to safety... How many cases do you know that recalls "backdraft"... Again fire fighters were not in the building not near it at the time, so they could not be injured in case an explosion occured. As far as the article says, fire fighters were occupied with the water hose for too long...

Backdraft was also highly inaccurate...its worse in real life. There is also the danger of a flashover, which would have killed the man and his dog.
