This 18" display is gorgeous. It sells at Best Buy for $999.99 plus $88.00 tax in Washington. There is a $100.00 MIR that is good until 9/28. Then you can PM (BVG) it here for an additional $195.00 off.

BEST OF ALL, for an additional $50.00, you can get a Best Buy warranty that will protect you from any burnt out pixels, or any other problem for that matter. I made them write in that if even one pixel malfunctions, Best Buy will give me a BRAND NEW MONITOR FOR THREE YEARS!!! I will definitley return it in three years for a newer model, since I doubt they will still be making it. I'm going to make them earn that $50.00.

A little bit of my research.
The rebate is not limitted to Best Buy but covers many popular stores. Check the rebate coupon for all qualifying retailers.
You can also see the list of eligible dealers here.
So, for example, you can try this deal at Circuit City, which IMHO has a much better customer service, and still get the rebate.
The specs for the monitor are here.
Note the monitor comes with a full three-year warranty already; however, I could not find anything about pixels in the warranty's text.
Anybody knows of any good reviews? The owners at CC and epinions seem to like it.

The only technical specs on that is 1280x1024 and it has DSUB and DVI-1 connections.
It also has crappy built in speakers that is NOT deattachable. Major negative there.

No info ont brightness, it's drop-off rate, etc.

This seems like a very good monitor with a contrast ratio of 400:1 and response time (20ms rise, 10ms fall), and WITHOUT those bad speakers you're talking about, which is present in SDM-M81.

There are NO speakers in this monitor. I don't see any reason to get a monitor with speakers since they can't compete with a decent set.

Yes, the $100.00 rebate is available elsewhere, but you cannot get the additional warranty for $50.00. ComUSA sells an additional warranty for $200.00, and it does not cover the pixels going wrong. Apparantly, pixels burning out is not unusual and the manufacturers do not consider it as something that will be fixed under warranty. The manufacturers feel it is something people will have to learn to live with.

As far as the brightness and contrast, there is much more than enough of both. I'm a photographer and need a good monitor to work on my images with Photoshop.

Hello All:

I have been following up with this particular LCD since june. This is the second time Sony has rebates for them. The rebate end in Jun 30th. I think the price is good, but can be better. Around June, in ecost.com. They have for 799, plus 100 dollar rebate. (if u live outside california, tax free and free shipping), but now the price has increased.. But over all the price have dropped for this monitor. The one disadvantage for this LCD is that dont have DVI input. I did some research, if you are buying this high quality LCD, u wanna something DVI (it's digial after all) but if you dont care. This is a great LCD

This Sony does not have DVI input. analog only.
