Rebate update: I called the Sony number on the rebate form, but I just got a busy signal. So I called eCost and asked if they are an authorized Sony dealer (as the rebate form requires). The guy I talked to (Steve x5454) said they were, and that Sony would honor the rebate. So there's no need to PM.

If you can live without a DVI input, this is the best deal on an 18" Sony LCD that you're gonna find.

(Plus, I've ordered from eCost before and have been happy with them.)

Sony is the one who will be writing the $100 check so ultimately, you should be asking sony not Ecost.

It even saids on the rebate that it is only valid when purchased through participating retailer only.

By being authorized to sell and handle sony products, Ecost is an authorized Sony dealer. It doesnt necessarily mean they are authorized, participaintg retailer of the $100 rebate program.

Besides if you were able to get the rebate by purchasing it from Ecost, I'm sure they would advertise it.

Notice how the retailers that are AUTHORIZED FOR THE REBATE are all B&M?

The one I cancelled is S81, Which is $799.
I am thinking getting a M81 or spent a 100 more to get a Planar CT1904N, that is pretty cool. It has a S-video input, by which I can hook up my Xbox

If you think SONY makes LCD as well as monitors buy it. If you actually seen a SONY LCD think again. I have been inthe market for 17-18 in LCD and have looked at several in many stores. THis sony is about middle of the pack. My perosnl preference for the buck is the Samsung 171S.

Just to clarify, the SDM-S81/B does NOT have a DVI-I connector, only the 15-pin mini D-sub. the SDM-M81/B DOES have both. Some of the info given above is misleading and does not apply to both models.

It varys from one model to another. On some monitors the difference is noticeable while others such as viewsonic, the change is minor.
