I don't know whether ecost qulify or not. Anyone would like to call sony to make sure.
There is the Rebate
Free shipping: I fake-buy this baby, it comes out that the ground shipping of FedEx and UPS are both free.

Rebates

Rebates restricted to purchase from "participating retailers" or "authorized retailers" are valid only on purchases of the applicable product from the following:

USA Retail Locations:

Best Buy
CompUSA
Fry's Electronics
MicroCenter
Office Depot

I was reading the reviews on it.
the major con is that its contrast ration is only 300:1.

Once you add it to your cart the price drops to $799. I regards to the shipping, ecost has free ground shipping with purchases over $500.

You could buy it at one of the authorized retailers and then PM with AMEX and still get the rebate. I'm trying to max out my AMEX in this last month before they stop the BVG program.

This is an awesome deal! Yeah, yeah, it doesn't have a DVI input, but BFD ... where else can you get a new 18" Sony LCD for $700.

Rebate update: I called the Sony number on the rebate form, but I just got a busy signal. So I called eCost and asked if they are an authorized Sony dealer (as the rebate form requires). The guy I talked to (Steve x5454) said they were, and that Sony would honor the rebate. So there's no need to PM.

If you can live without a DVI input, this is the best deal on an 18" Sony LCD that you're gonna find.

(Plus, I've ordered from eCost before and have been happy with them.)

Thanks again for the deal.

It has a single connector. It comes with a DVI-D to a 25 pin analog cable. You have to buy the DVI-D to DVI-D cable.

Tiejiba,

You can hook it up to DV-out via a little converter that alot places sell now.

I THINK this is one that Compusa carries - but its 25 bucks. You can find em way cheaper. Most Nvidia boards come with one bundled now.

ANyone know if this is 18.0" VIEWABLE? If so this is a decent find if the rebate works.

Actually, I do have this DVI-VGA convertor, but the story I heard is, if you use a VGA or A converted DVI signal on a LCD, the performance will be 20% lower than that using DVI cable.
Any idea?

Yeah, if you have a flat panel that is capable of doing straight DVI input, then definitely invest in a video card that can output DVI.

A good flat panel is going to look pretty clear when using the analog VGA input, but once you've seen what the same flat panel can do with a DVI input. It's like night and day. Until you see the difference with your own eyes (also depends a bit on how picky you are), you just really won't understand the difference.

Your video card generates a digital signal. If you convert it to VGA and then convert it back to DVI, you're going to lose signal quality in the DVI to VGA and the VGA to DVI steps. Double penalty.

And DVI will reduce ghosting.

Also, those little adapters can only convert DVI-I to VGA. DVI-I is an extension of the DVI-D standard where the analog signal is passed on some extra pins in the connector. If your video card doesn't output DVI-I, that little converter won't have the right pins to grab and route to the proper pins in the VGA connector.
