Hmm, may have to go check that out although the last time I got discs at BestBuy I looked at the Sony discs and they were made in Taiwan.

If you can find the MIJ's they're excellent. The -R's and +R's burn flawlessly at 16X on my NEC3550.

Got some. The 16x were made in Taiwan. The 8x were made in Japan, media id TYG02. I burn at 4x so 8x max speed is fine with me.

Best Buy in Huntsville, Alabama, appears to only have Taiwanese DVD+R and Japanese DVD-R for Sony blank media. The local CompUSA has Japanese Sony DVD+R blanks in stock, though, and they price-matched to Best Buy's $14.99 price. I need +R media because I use my XBOX as a media player / DVD player and it won't read DVD-R discs.

EDIT: Argh! These "Made in Japan" Sony DVD+R blanks that I bought at CompUSA show a media descripter of "Sony D21" instead of "Taiyo Yuden"!

so let me get this straight

MIJ = Made in Japan = Yaiyo Yuden = burnable at 16x speed? even though description says speeds up to 8x?

If you can find Sony DVD+R 8x media which says "Made in Japan" on the label, the odds are very good that the media will be Taiyo Yuden, with media id "YUDEN000 T02". This is very high quality media, some of the best that you can buy, and will give exceptionally good burns on many different recorders at 8x. Many recorders will also give excellent results at 12x with this media, and some have even reported good results at 16x.

The Sony DVD+R 16x media, "Made in Japan", tends to be the "Sony D21" media, which is good, but not as good as the Taiyo Yuden.

From the bestbuy in Harvey, LA, dvd -r's were Manufacturer ID TYG03 and the +r's were Manufacturer ID YUDEN000T02.

The Sony media is actually better than Taiyo Yuden lately. People have been complaining about bonding problems (bubbles/gaps between the layers).

I got some that were these Sony D21

Quality wise TY DVD-R 8X from shopfortech.com are far superior. I have 4 burners and Nero disk scans always say 97% to 99% quality on the TYs. Last batch I got from them a couple weeks ago were $24 shipped for 100 and they threw in a free CD/cell phone holder for the car. [There was a 10% off code]. I'll stick with the TYs. Always under $30 shipped for 100 and never a dud in nearly 2000 I have burned.

Sale is still going on. I would hurry though-the employee who helped me locate the pack told me its going to end soon. Just in case, I would print that link page and bring it just in case your local Best Buy accidently sells at full retail (has happened to me before when I tried to buy Call of Duty 2-luckily I had a printout of the website's sale price). Don't know where some of you got the Japanese ones-all the ones at my BB say Made in Taiwan. Doesn't matter to me though really-considering nearly every major computer component is designed and manufactured by a Taiwanese company, I would say the quality should be very good for these DVD's.

I'm just wondering about something:

After I purchased this bundle, I went over to Circuit City to pick up Sin Episode 1 for their weekly sale, and it was there I noticed they had a sale going on where CC was selling packs of 50 of DVD+R's by a company called Nexxtech. They were going for $7.44 or somewhere around that ballpark, and it did tempt me for a bit, but I stuck with the Sony namebrand. Just wondering for future reference whether the Nexxtech DVD+R's are quality-maybe some Taiwanese company manufactures them?

1) Go to Best Buy, pick up Weekly Ad, or just purchase for $14.99 + tax
2) Go to Staples, pricematch 100%, $14.99 + tax

-OR- (the better way)

1) Go to Best Buy, pick up Weekly Ad
2) Go to Staples, purchase Sony MIJ 50pk for $39.99 + tax
3) Leave store, wait a few minutes
4) Come back into Staples, pricematch for 110% ($14.99 - ($39.99 - $14.99)*10%) = $12.50 + tax

you HAVE to buy it 1st or else you wont get the extra 10% off

Ink coupons YMMV

Good luck!

MB/CMC actually makes Verbatim disks. Only the dual-layer Verbatims are made in their own plant.

BTW, BB has the Sony 100 pack for $26.

MCC also makes Verbatim +R's, look for Made in Singapore.
