How did you buy this for $410.99 when its listed on their site for $499.99 - do they accept coupons?

Coincidently, I just saw this player earlier today at BJ's, and I believe the price was $399.99 - this has got to be one of the smallest 5-DVD changers that I have ever seen !!!

EDIT - Just found the answer myself - they also have a $100 instant rebate in addition to the $100 main-in rebate.

It's also the slowest 5 dvd changer in existence. I played with one at CC, and it took about 20 seconds to switch dvd's.

dont go for this system, it was basically over priced earlier for about $700 and now it is around $300.
from my experience from this systems i that it does not have the punch of a home theater.

My friend has this system which he got pretty cheap to go with his new HDTV. He mainly bought it because his dad was getting it direct from Sony and he liked the looks.

In the end, no full range bass... sound clarity was mediocre, just like he expected and I told him to expect. He didn't pay $500 for it... $400 but that was quite a while ago.

The Onyko 6.1 we had on ATHD a short while ago was a much better deal for the money.

That may be a dream system as in You're dreaming". An RCA system gas more punch. You guys gotta listen before you buy..or go with a slew of positive reviews. I suppose it's saving grace is SACD, though.

There is also a $200 rebate for a more expensive model from Sony.
Expires on July 6, 2003. It's listed as $999, but check this site

SONDAVC990 Sony Home Theater Systems

Sub Total $687.77
Shipping $39.99
Sales Tax (NJ Only) $0.00
Total $727.76

Final Price: $727.76 - $200.00 = $527.76

The reviews have been mixed.
Some people like it. Some don't. Varies from one extreme to another.
Personally, I love the design. It'll be so cool to have in your living/entertainment room.

I have owned one of these for a while now, and its not bad for the money. Most hardcore home theater guys snub all-in-one systems and prefer to buy them at the component level. So asking them may not get you anywhere. Personally the downs are that the DVD changer switches slwoly (mentioned above), and the Sub is a passive Sub (not diven by its own power source). With a passive sub you won't get big bass thumps, but it's not bad for med to small rooms. I wouldn't jump on this if you inted to put this in a large room. Its more in line with town homes, apartments, and bedrooms. Finally I wish it had a few more svideo inputs (it only has one). I have a few video game consoles that I would love to hook up without using a component switch, or settling for a Composit input.

Downs aside, its a great system all in all. It looks nice, and has above average sound quality. You could get a better system, but that would defeat ther purpose of buying one at a great deal. I bought mine about 8 months ago for arround $500 so this is a great deal.

I've had this system for several months. Sound quality is fantastic, though as with all multiple-speaker systems, placement of the speakers is key. For the price and features -- full decoding, ability to play tons of file formats, very slick design, and, in my opinion, fantastic sound -- I don't think it can be beat.

Don't let the l33t users scare you off. Go listen to one yourself, and make your decision based on how it sounds to YOU.

In MY opinion, the pros are:

-- Truly great sound. Positioning the speakers is key. The unit includes an elaborate configuration program that helps you "tune" your speakers. I highly suggest using it. Makes all the difference.

-- Fantastic design. You just won't find another unit this small that can do all of this. Speakers look great, sub looks great, and the main unit looks fantastic.

-- Ability to decode all dolby signals, and play lots of disc formats.

Here are the cons as I see them:

-- If you search on google, you'll find people complaining about some quirk where subtitles get turned on, and you can't turn them off. I've never experienced this, but it was the biggest red flag circulating when I decided to buy mine. At the time, people said Sony was aware of the problem and was arranging to fix units. It's possible that this plagued only earlier generations of the units, I don't know. As I said, it hasn't happened to me.

-- The remote leaves something to be desired. It can control everything, which is nice, but the design is poor. The remote itself is quite large, but the buttons are relatively tiny. I find that I don't use it much, so it doesn't bother me. But something to keep in mind.

-- It does indeed take time to change CDs/DVDs. This is not a rotating platter system, it's an elevator system. It certainly doesn't take 20 seconds, but there is a MUCH longer lag than you are used to. One other problem: Because it's not a platter system, there is no way to see which five CDs/DVDs you have in the system at the moment. They no doubt built the system this way in an effort to save space. You just have to decide if the space saving is worth it for you.

Feel free to IM me if you have any specific questions about the unit. Anyone who tells you this isn't worth $300 -- or even $400 -- is nuts. That's a fantastic deal on this thing.

I like mine. The sound is good and you can't beat the compact size and look. The only problem I have had is that the subwoofer will vibrate on my hardwood floors and make a low frequency buzz. I put a pad under it ( a magazine for now, actually) and all is good. I think they need to put more weight into the subwoofer cabinet.

Speaker wall mounting brackets are ridiculously expensive. I found some nylon brackets at Target on clearance for $10 a pair that are identical to the $20-40 brackets you see in most stores.

I bought mine a month ago and had BestBuy PM a local store that was closing them out at $450 while BB had them at $599. The catch was that BB had a $100 giftcard rebate and Sony had a $100 rebate going so my total cost was $250! I have even received both rebate already.
