Sony A6000

Anyone have this camera? I like how small it is and it can take some decent pictures. When is the newer version coming out? This might be my next cam.

It is a great camera. I returned it after 3 days of owning it.
1) I couldn't stand the EVF - it seriously looks like a camcorder from 1994.
2) The kit lens was poor. This is a popular knock on just about any camera, but in my case, I genuinely felt the kit lens was poor. There are people who find it to be completely acceptable.

The A6000 must be Sony's longest running, un-updated camera in recent memory. They update their bodies every 6 months it seems, but the A6000 has stayed strong.

Go to sonyrumors.com ( or whatever the sony nex rumor site is ) and see if you can suss out details for the arrival of the update.

I'd wait for the update, then purchase the A6000 for cheap and put the saving towards a better lens or two.

You have to go to the store and handle it to see how you like the camera. It's small, the kit lens is very tiny, compare with a DSLR, but not as portable as a Sony RX100. Picture quality is very good, just like most APS-C camera out there. It does a decent job of focusing on moving kids or animals, and the 11 fps is nice. Tracking moving targets is still behind a Nikon D3300 or D5200, D5300, or D5500, but none of them can do 11 fps . Just spray it like a machine gun, you might get some keepers. The Sony 35mm 1.8 OSS and the 50mm 1.8 OSS are perfect with the A6000. One of the biggest drawback for me is the electronic viewfinder, it's very difficult for me to see in bright day light, I'm used to the old style optical viewfinder. Any modern camera can take beautiful pictures, it's up to you more than the camera.

If you are sticking with the kit lens, then look at the rx100 as well (kit lens+apsc sensor provides similar quality to rx100's 1" sensor)

Rx100 would provider much better portability, might be cheaper(or go for the newer version with better hardware/features, versus a6000's older technology)

On what planet is this true? The RX100 no matter the version is no match for the a6000. It is a totally different class of camera. The a6000 is still one of the fastest cameras on the market and for the price it is an absolute steal. You can get an a6000 plus FE28/2 for the same price as the RX100 MKIV and it's not even a fair comparison.

Rx100 can be found $300-$400(first gen, a6000+kit maybe $400-500? Rx100 III would be $650 and IV would be $950

If OP is only using kit lens and cares about portability, rx100 might be worth it . obviously OP would need to do his own research

Why get the FE 28/2? Future proofing for FF? Maybe better off with 35mm f/1.8 OSS?

The rx100 series should come with a screen protector/AR coating preinstalled... Can remove it (with some difficulty) and replace it
