The other Duracell 2650maH deal might be better for some now?

It may not be Sony branded, but LED Shoppe has great prices on AA 2500mAh and AAA 1000mAh NiMH batteries and chargers. I bought these 5 NiMH batteries for $5, shipped from Hong Kong (choose either 5AA or 5AAA). Also, be sure to browse the site for LED flashlights or their LED Bike Light products.

Avoid generic batteries, they don't hold up well over time.
Sony cells are relabeled Panasonic/Sanyo (as are Energizers, for those who like to refer to the now-non-applicable great battery shootout of 3-4 generation older technology).
They are premium cells, this was an outstanding deal at $3. Unfortunately they're now showing up as $13.
The charger/battery combo looks sold out on Amazon but note the packaging- 2100mAH. It could be that they recycled an old picture for product with newer generation cells, or it could be that these are old stock with already 18+ months aging sitting on a stock shelf somewhere. If you want highest capacity from cells for longest time possible, buy fresh stock.

Energizers/Duracell/Powerex/maha all buy their batteries from the same OEM in japan.

No they definitely do not. Energizer are Panasonic/Japan. Duracell are Chinese (I have packs). This even ignores obvious visual cell differences like the top and bottom finish and insulating material.
Originally posted by: virtualgames0Yes they definitely are. I used to sell powerex batteries and I met up with the CEO myself. He personally told me that they get ther batteries from the same OEM manufacturer in Japan as Energizer/Duracell. That said, Duracell aren't even made in China, the packaging itself says made in Japan.

A nice story, but some part of it is untrue. Doesn't really matter which part, but as already mentioned anyone who has Duracells (for example) can prove it from the different cell construction attributes and that "made in China" on them.
Please check your facts, hearsay does not counter direct evidence!
I also have Duracell packages, which state:
"Made in China/Fabrique en Chine/Hecho en China"
Look at the cells next, examine them closely then tell us they are the same. They are not.
