BTW, don't get me wrong, the Sony PDAs are far superior in every way (minus the memory stick issue) than their competition. As far as the cradle goes, you get what you pay for. Sony decided to sell this without the cradle for two reasons: it's not a necessity and it'll be cheaper if you weren't forced to buy it. The Palm m500 still retails for around $329) while the Sony retails for only $169. You do the math.

One of the biggest disadvantages [to all Sony manufactured products] is the use of their very limiting Sony memory sticks. If they just went along with everyone else and used compact flash or smart media, it'd make all of our lives easier. Kind of like how the US still used lb and feet instead of Newton and meter.

For those of you who don't know or who didn't get in on that Compusa deal a while back, Sony media sticks are way more expensive than compact flash or smart media sticks.

I agree on the Sony Memory Stick media ... makes me re-consider buying Sony digicams or laptops but I prefer Nikon/Olympus for digicams and Dell/IBM for laptops. I wish this Sony Clie accepted industry standard media such as Smart Media or Compact Flash.

While I wish the Sony Clie came with a cradle I'd rather pay $169 (retail) without cradle instead of $199 (retail) with cradle.

hmmm...i have the s320 i bought from dell a while back and i'm running win xp pro. i haven't had any sort of problems with the usb hot synch, it works great. i heard the older s300 doesn't work right with xp, but the 320 works fine. this is my first pda, and it's really nice.

My 320 works just fine with XP. I heard on the PDA & Clie groups that you needed to update the 300's to palm OS 4 for XP to work.

I ordered the s320 from Dell in mid November when they had 15% off instead of just 10%. My total was $124.xx with no rebate hassel. I did get the message saying it won't ship until December 13th (np, it's a Christmas gift) but I'll have to check, if Dell just received more I might get it sooner.

The cradle is not necessary because the batteries last so long between charges. The proprietary Sony memory stick sucks, but since you won't be needing nearly the memory that you would with a digital camera, the smaller (cheaper) memory sticks should do (if you need them at all).

What I don't like is the lack of support for accessories from the manufacturer and the aftemarket. Everyone has a Palm or Visor and you can get just about anything for them. This sort of reminds me of the Dreamcast. It's a better product than Sony's PS, but everyone jumped on the Playstation bandwagon instead of the Dreamcast bandwagon, so they got out of the business.

Anyway.. I'm still looking for a good case for my 320. Not many are offered for it and the ones that Sony sell aren't even specifically made for the 320. I'm just going to buy the one made for the 320's bigger brothers and hope that it works.

BTW.. I got mine from Dell and if you can still get it from them, I'd rather buy it there than CC with a MIR. Sure, it's a few bucks more, but you have to consider tax with CC and waiting on the MIR.

My local CC said they wouldn't give a full refund if the box had been opened. They charge a % for returning it. And it was at least %10-%15. I couldn't believe it... What a joke...

<< DO NOT cut out the UPC or mail in the rebate until you have played around with the PDA to determine if you like it or not. If you don't then you can still return it to your local CC and lose nothing. >>

Really? I'll have to ask my local CC's manager before buying my next S320 (XMas present for my sister to replace her aging Handspring Visor Deluxe) if I can return the gift without incurring a ridiculous restocking fee for such a small item.

Bump, today is the LAST DAY to get the Sony Clie PEG-S320 for $119 after rebate.

I was told by a local cc manager that this is the most popular PDA they're selling, all of my cc's were out except for one which only had two left.

ColdBrew - I asked the manager about their return policy but forgot to ask if the box was opened. I don't intend to open mine, I'll ask the recipient of the gift (my sister) if she wants it, if she says yes then it's her and I get the UPC symbol for the rebate if not she won't open it and I'll return it to cc for a full $169 refund.

<< CC rebate comes pretty quick too. I just got $60 rebate for buying iPaq 3135 about 6 weeks ago. >>

I think you are the only lucky a$$. In my past experience, CC rebates are sux. Some of my CC rebates never came. And it took 12 weeks for them to mail me the $12 Case Logic CD wallet rebate. Now I am still waiting for the $60 rebate from them for the IPAQ H3135. If they don't really offer a extremely good deal, I seldom buy from them. Their return policy is sux too.

I've never had problems with cc rebates, maybe I'm just lucky but here's what I do for cc rebates and ALL rebates:
1) Follow the rebate instructions to the T.
2) Copy EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING.
3) Send it via USPS with delivery confirmation, it's a few bucks but it's well worth it if your rebate is $20 or more.
4) If you don't receive the rebate within the time specified, call or write them, if no response after a reasonable period of time, send an urgent letter and make sure it clearly states "cc: Attorney General of Oregon" (or whatever your state is). This usually catches their attention.

I recent purchased one of these from Dell.com for $124.24. The PDA itself is a great unit, it looks far better in person than in pictures. If anyone doubts the S320, check this out:

http://www2.pdabuzz.com/Reviews/

The S320 is third overall, out of all PDAs in user review. It is barely behind the M500 which cost WAY more and has minimal functionality over the S320. The memory sticks are not much of a setback unless you already own removable media of another type. Sure, Memory Sticks costs more but you can get good deals on them just like anything else. 32MB media from Dell was $23 something shipped a few days ago.

After using this for a few days, I would not trade this for anything costing $100 more. I use Afterburner to overclock and QuickBits to speed things up. The unit is FAST, the screen is great, and the ergonomics of the PDA are sweet. Even at $170, the S320 is a good deal compared to the M125 Palm offers up at $250. People buy the Palm just because it is a Palm branded unit... Do not let the Memory Stick scare you away from a great deal.

Not having the cradle does not both me either. I plug in the Sync cable and 15 seconds later it is done. It charges up very fast on the charge cable and the USB sync works just fine in XP out of the box btw. You can buy a cradle if you needed it amnd still come in cheaper than a Palm.

brian_riendeau - I whole heartedly agree with your most recent post and this coming from a former Palm Vx owner. Although I LOVED my Palm Vx, it just doesn't give you as much bang for your buck as the Sony Clie PEG-S320 does.
