Sony digicam DSC-P72 3MB with Free 128 memory stick and memory card reader for $279 at OM, no rebates involved

Mine is still backorder too, so i doubt that they'll send me one. I got one from the store with $25 off from opening the OM card, and it was the only one left from several stores I had called earlier...

My friend in NJ got hers although she ordered 2 hrs after I did...

My camera is on backorder also. I received my Dazzle card reader and Lexar 128 mb memory stick today though. On the packing slip they were .01¢ each. I wonder if Officemax isn't able to fulfill my order. What would they charge me for just the memory stick and card reader? Would it still be a penny each?

Sorry it's been kind of a crappy fulfillment deal for you guys. I hope it pans out.

I'm still actually looking at the A70. One of my coworkers (who's a digital SLR superfreak and freelance photographer) looked at all the reviews and sample pics from all 3 of these camera on dcresource.com and gave me his input as messed around with the photos. As I was suspecting he showed me how easy it was to use just a slight unsharpen effect (a custom Photoshop effect he bought) on the A70 shots to get an absolutely gorgeous picture. Granted, you'd like your camera to take sharp pictures without thinking about it, but autofocus cameras are always going to have issues and it's really easy to run a batch file on all your pics at once. The Nikon's pictures looked the sharpest, but were a good bit more noisey. The Sony's were kind of a nice medium ground providing sharpness with minimal noise. The Canon was not quite as sharp in some areas, but seemed to definitely have the smoothest and most accurate coloring. All 3 looked great on printouts.

Yeah unsharp mask isn't the end of the world, but this camera is for my wife to take pictures of our kids. I'm not going to try to teach her Photoshop or expect her to be running image correction on every photo she takes. I've got tons of great pictures I keep meaning to "tweak" before printing, and as a consequence, they never get printed at all. The goal is for my wife to be able to take pictures of the kids at the park all day and then drop by the local Walgreens on the way home for great prints. I have a good Walgreens with the Fuji Frontier and the results are amazing, especially with my Sony F-707. I've gotten many prints with that combo that look like studio-quality work.

Yeah this deal has been lame so far. I've had to pass on the Dell $90 off deal in the hope that this will pan out. Last night I had the both the P8 and A70 in my cart there, but I kept looking at pics and reviews...I just couldn't do it. The P72 is exactly what I want, so I'll just have to cross my fingers.

Also go read the Canon user forums at www.dpreview.com. That's really what scared me off of the A70. I'd expect a little bashing from Sony fans, but to see all the complaints coming from Canon fanatics & A70 owners really convinced me to stay away from the A70. I know you can get great prints with it, but I don't want to have to salvage shots that looked great on the LCD but look like crap in Photoshop.

Not bashing Canon, just explaining my decision-making process, and hanging out in the Canon & Sony forums there helped me make my decision.

I found the P72 for $215 @ BargainBay but they sell it with the 16MB Memory Stick... Shipping included!
It also includes the same accessories as the ones sold at Office Max.

The 128MB Memory Sticks can be found online for $62.00 including shipping
so P72 Kit w/16MB stick $215 (incl. shipping) + 128MB stick $62.00 = $277

They also have great pricing on other models although I'm a little suspicious. They sell
the Canon S50 (5 MP) for only $379.95 which is a at least a hundred less then everyone else.
It says on their website that all products are sold new-in-box.

So what do you think?

They are apparently a Yahoo! Shopping store front. I am not familiar with the requierements of Yahoo! Shopping, so this may mean nothing.

One thing is for sure, their prices are low. I bought my Toshiba M81 from a Yahoo! Shopping store about a year ago. Was an excellent deal as well. If I remember correctly, they then tried to sell me all sorts of "accessories" and stuff.

Wow.. Am I the only one that received my camera? I received the card reader and memory stick yesterday and the camera today. That Yahoo shopping store looks like a great BVG site if you have AMEX and go and purchase the camera tonight at your local store (today is the last day for BVG internet price matching).

Even more frustrating is that the OfficeMax 5 miles from my home has plenty of P72 cameras in stock. I asked the manager if there was any way I could get my online order fulfilled through his store and he said no. He also would not match the online deal (and I don't blame him, I wouldn't either).

I've got a baby due in three weeks...OfficeMax, you're really pissing me off!

what you may wanna do is to buy it from the store, open OM credit card to get $25 off. $304 for P72 with 128 mb memory stick and card reader isn't too bad... at least the store has plenty of P72 cameras. I only found 1 store that only had one left, all other stores I called didn't have it in stock anymore.

They do sell the bundle, it's on their weekly ad for this week. They just won't match the $50 off online coupon.

Yes my local OM B&M accepts competitor's coupons, the printable Staples $30 off $150 work nicely.

Of course as always YMMV.

For the most part, the 'problem' isn't that bad. From what I've gathered, it seems to be a trade off between noise and sharpness, with the A70 being less noisy. Luckily this can be post processed. The color reproduction on the A70 is supposedly fairly accurate (something harder to correct after the fact depending on how the colors are skewed).

It's fine if all you want to take photos of is Barbara Walters. Have you ever noticed that every time the camera goes to her, the focus gets really soft?
