I'm a little confused about how you pricematch Dell to Sears and then buy a replacement plan. According to Sears pricematch policy, they only match LOCAL stores.

And how would you trade in if Sears isn't there anymore? Unless you saying you trade it in when you hear they going out of business.

And again, THIS IS A QUESTION ASKING HOW THE EXTENTION PLAN FROM A COMPANY WOULD HANDLE IF THE COMPANY GO OUT OF BUSINESS OR GET BOUGHT. Not directly relate to Sears alone.
And I already answered you on how I personally would handle it. Yes, I meant trade it in when you hear they are going out of business. It's not possible that a company the size of Sears would close shop and lock the doors without anyone knowing about it beforehand. Plus, your entire question is ridiculous.

If you're really so concerned about how they would handle it, why don't you drop into the customer service department of your local store and ask them?

Well I have pricematched at Sears both in the local store and with Sears.com. When I did it, they had a list of reputable online vendors which they will match, and I don't know if Dell is one of them. But that was their policy when I did it. They pricematched a VCR for me against Crutchfield.com and pricematched my Sony F707 camera against someone else (I don't recall who it was at the time). I went into the store with printouts from Pricegrabber for five different vendors and the sales guy called it in to a corporate office and then those people looked up each vendor and said yes or no to matching the price. Of the five I brought in, it was the third best price that they ended up matching. I really couldn't complain, because the first two vendors were pretty shady looking and there's no way I would have bought from them.

Bottom line though is that they always have pricematched online vendors for me, and I believe that is their stated policy. Why don't you call Sears.com and ask?

Too lazy to just drop by there. And last time I got a reason to go into Sears was like 4 months ago. That is how often I go to Sears.

Ridiculous as it may sound, but company do come and go. Those extension plan covers like 5 or 10 years maybe more. I don't know about you, but when I pay something for 10 years, I expect it to be 10 years. Have you look at that plan? It can go from $15 to like $500 or something like that. I just wonder if you can go and get the rest of your money back if they do go out of business.

End of discussion.

You can end the discussion if you'd like by not replying, but you are making moronic statements and I can't let them stand. There's not a ten-year replacement plan available for digital cameras at Sears. The only replacement plans offered by Sears for the F717 are one-year or two-year replacement plans. Those are in addition to the manufacturer's warranty, so a two-year plan covers you for three full years.

Someone suggested buying at Sears because of their pricematching policy and their excellent product replacement plans. But if you're afraid to buy the extended warranty because you don't know what would happen if Sears went out of business, and you're also too lazy to call or ask in person, then don't get the warranty, or don't get it at Sears! How is this even an issue?

Admittedly a great camera, but the Canon D60 is a digital SLR. That's a completely different kind of camera, not to mention the $2000 price tag and that doesn't even count lenses & other add-ons. And you can get the same pics with a Sony F717, a Nikon 5700 or a Canon G3. Unless you're doing wedding or event photography, or you just have $3500 to blow on a pro digital SLR rig, it's overkill. Heck, even the F717 is overkill. It's definitely not a convenient camera, although it's a lot more convenient than a D60, that's for sure.

Tell me if this is hot deal and is the store reliable.

No resellerrating history, overpriced accessories, and a total ripoff on UPS ground shipping.

ha ha ha, that is some good story about bad company trying to scam ppl.

Here is one that I been kinda fighting with. This is Staples, and I am very sure they just punch in the UPC code wrong. I bought this CenDyne CD-RW drive with rebate for $30. I did everything as stated in the rebate form. I checked my mail on Saturday May 17,2003. Got a nice letter from the rebate company nicely saying that the UPC code I sent them is not valid for the rebate. I emailed them and give them the UPC code that I have scanned (Lucky for me I have a scanned copy of it). Asked them to double check again. They reply telling me to make sure that the CD-RW drive is really a CenDyne 48x12x48. I reply back to them saying 'yes it is' and ask them to verify again on their side. Now this is the email I got back.

=====================================
Thank you for your rebate inquiry. We are pleased to inform you that
we have updated your record, and that your rebate submission is now
valid. Please allow 4-6 weeks to receive your rebate. Note that the
check is remitted in the form of a postcard and will not arrive in an
envelope.

We appreciate your participation in this promotion. If there is
anything else we can do to assist you, please contact us at
rebates@parago.com. We are always happy to help. You can also track
the status of your rebate, using the Rebate ID above, at

Okay I am with Todd on this one. I own the 717's slightly smaller brother, the 707 (identical cameras with the exception of a few key features such as a hot shoe and the ability to accept memsticks larger than 128mb).

I can safely say that after 3,000 plus photos and over a year of use that camera is one of the single best purchases I have ever made. I would like to get the 717 because Sony finally listened to us when we complained about the oversaturated reds and greens. But all that is easily fixed in Photoshop.

People - when buying a digital camera please heed this advice... It's not just about "who has the most megapixels". ALWAYS look at the lens. If you have a tiny lens with crappy glass guess what you have? You have a crappy 4mp photo! Sony is always safe with the Carl Zeiss lenses. Lots of glass = lots of light.

The focusing algorithm is outstanding on this model too (people do piss and moan about the 2 Sony models below the 717, the dsc-s85 and s75, they use a different, slower, less accurate method so you ave to take your time with those cameras more.

Connect this camera with one of the newer Canon photo printers (I have the i850) and you have a combination that will put your local Wolf Camera out of business!!

Short of going to a D-SLR you won't find a better camera for this kind of money, period.

Todd is correct. Oh, I go by Stever on the STF forum at DPReview. Haven't posted anything in a long while though (not real happy with how the forum has migrated to a "let's pat the guy with the best photos on the back" deal and a "okay where is the best price for xxx camera" threads. There are other forums (on different sites for that matter) for that stuff.

The 717 is one of the best consumer level camera in the market now. You can't go wrong with it unless you really dislike the shape. IMO, the weird shape allows to me to take shots where a conventional camera can't.

Agreed on the wierd shape, but...

That design allows for some over-the-head shots that others wouldn't have dreamed of - and I have done that a number of times AND if your into candids you can sit on a curb or bench, drop the camera into your lap, swivel the body so the LCD is almost 90 degrees face up (from normal vertical) and shoot. People thing your just messing with your camera. As a rule people don't like their picture taken unless you either know them or have permission.

I own this camera also and I find it amazing. I had its predecessor, the 707, as well, and there's a reason I keep coming back: amazing quality photos.

If anyone's interested, there's a Sony camera discussion forum I'm a member of: http://www.sonycams.com -- Check it out.

I just did it w/my old F707 a couple of weeks ago and actually got cash back ($70) b/c the price on the newer model was cheaper than what I paid for the 707! Especially worth it if you're hard on your equipment like me.

Never bought any insurance/replacement plans.
How much more is the replacement plan?? Does it depend on how much the camera is??

The replacement and extention plan depends on the catagory of the product and the price.

Ya, Memory stick is the most expensive out there. But is it really better?

With all these PC ram going down so fast, why don't they put these ram into digital camara? I mean they can use it as a buffer or something. Just 1 stick will increase your storage space to 1Gig.

Comparing to existing memory stick without the rebates, it's not that much more. Definitely overpriced though comparing to other digital camera storage media. If I can get the 512MB MS Pro for about $160, I will buy 2.
