NEGATIVE. I see memory stick pro as being natively supported by this camera. This was one of my priorities when I purchased the F717. I love it.

$610 still a very big pop but wait for about 1 more month for the new 828 to come out and it said to support more media then just memory stick. I like memory stick but it's XXXpensive comparing to other media. Maybe because only Sony makes it. I'll wait until then and make my decision.

Anyhow, even if the 828 comes out, do you think you can afford it? A better question is: do you think you can afford it a year from now? Seeing how large it is and how much features are built-in, it's probably going to retail for around $1200-$1500. In about a year, it will drop to around $900 (if you're lucky).

It does have a lot more improvements over the 717 though (i wish the 717 had a CF slot). Anyhow, at $610, the F717 is a steal. G3/G5 can't even touch it.

I received the F717 today. Took it out for a whirl and was totally impressed!

Image quality and overall performance rocks! A whole lot better than my $400 Canon S330 (also a lot more bulky) bought a year ago.

The main gripe is the stupid memorystick. Good thing I have an extra 128MB stick from my Clie. The 32MB stick holds a mere 30 pictures at 2Megapixel. Even my 128MB stick holds only about 140 pics; I easily approached this limit within a couple of hours. Now I'm online trying to buy a 256MB Memstick Pro from Sony (150-30discount-20% coupon for registering the camera). Oh and also purchased the leather case ($35). This is one camera that you can't leave lying around or keep hanging from your neck/shoulder all the times (and I am so used to slipping the S330 into the pocket in my jean).

So here's the REAL cost:

1 x F717 Digicam = $799 - 15% = 679.15 - $75 rebate = $604.15 (free shipping and tax from Dell.com)
1 x MSX-256 memorystick = $120 - 20% + 4.80 s/h = $95.99
1 x LCS-VA3 leather carrying case = $35 - 20% + 4.80 s/h = $27.99

Total: $604.15 + $95.99 + $27.99 = $728.13 ($803.13 before $75 rebate)

That's a pretty sizable dent on my wallet. Will have to save on lunches for awhile but totally worth it.

The more I read about this camara the more I feel like it is film. The capture area on the Cmos in this camara was on purposely made to have the same as the film and it even put in a shutter just like the film.
