PS Vita day 1. Hopefully doesn't dissapoint like the 3ds with no games. I might as well throw my 3ds in the trash. It hasn't been turned on in a couple months.

I actually like my PSP with all of its rpgs. so I'm sure I'll like Vita.

After never touching my PSP even after hacking it, I'll be shying away from this one.

I never played mine that much either TBH, but this one seems a lot more interesting, especially with 2 analog sticks. I really like shooters, and the ability to not play them well on this turned me off. That, and with AAA titles like Uncharted being developed well for it, I can't wait.

Hmm I'm wondering if the system is supposed to have any internal storage? Based on what I've read, all patches and bonus content will be stored on the "NVG card" (proprietary format -- go Memory Stick!) that the game is on. I assume that they'd need to cut back on things like internal storage to be able to afford that price point. The hardware is pretty damn similar to smartphones... in fact, it might be better than smartphones even when it comes out.

So given that smartphones typically retail for ~$600 unsubsidized... it makes me wonder if Sony is taking a hit on this.

That was one of the big reasons why I didn't get a PSP. That along with the thin library of games and price. It just wasn't worth it for me. All of these appear to be rectified with the Vita with the exception of the price.

gotta say sony totally RRAAPPEEDDD ms as far as press conferences went. freaking blew them out of the water, not even a competition. i came out of the sony presser with 4 games already must buys for me this year.

Uncharted 3
Resitsance 3
God of War Origins Collection
Ico and Shadow of the Collussus Collection

If Sly Cooper was coming this year that would be on my list too.

If I see some more things about the PS Move that may have potential, that R3 package for $150 looks tempting. However right now there really is jack shit that looks good for move so as of now I'm not even bothering.

That 3D TV was pretty cool but a pretty high price point. I game on a 23" monitor on a coffee table so it would be perfect for my setup. The lag of the display would be a major question for me though since I play a lot of fighters. I also like the tech where 2 people can see 2 totally different images. pretty damn impressive.

WHile I don't give a shit about the vita, the $250 price point is right on the mark. that thing is goign to sell like hot cakes IMO. great list of games coming out.

I also saw a new Hot Shots Golf game for the Vita, so that gives me hope there is a new PS3 one in development as well.

Errm what other device with a 5" OLED screen can you get for $249?

It says on Wikipedia that it will be using a NVG card, which is a proprietary SD-like card (2GB and 4GB variants). Games will be allowed to use 5-10% of the card's space for DLC, saves, updates, etc. They will also have larger variants available in the future?

I'd say it's a very interesting application of current technology, but that's it. My thought is that this actually uses 3D technology with very specific glasses that are designed slightly different from current 3D active/passive shutter glasses. If I remember correctly, the shutter glasses will "close" a lens so only a specific eye sees a current picture and will continue to switch when commanded to. My assumption is that this technology will block both lenses when it is displaying the other player's picture and then reverse when it is your picture.

wow... this seems like people will actually WANT this system... with the technology, it'll probably cost a pretty penny...

The price is just perfect for this... They're flirting with PS3 range, but getting graphics even REMOTELY close to PS3 is flippin' phenomenal...

Smartphones only cost $600 unsubsidized because they are, in fact, subsidized. If wireless carriers would completely get rid of that whole model and have an open market with actual competition, then phone prices would actually resemble something more normal.

Wow I must say I was shocked to see the Vita priced at $250. I was expecting $300-$400. At that price I may actually get one. And looks like there is a good software library lined up as well. Wipeout, Uncharted, and Modnation Racers would all be on my list. It's rumored there will be a COD game released as well.

Does it run Android? The status bar at the top looks a bit android-ish.

If they had access to android market so people could release indie games for the Vita that would be amazing.

Nice, I'm glad to see the Vita is going to have a decent price point considering what's packed into it. I'm not too big on handhelds these days, but I'll at least watch the Vita closely. I didn't get to see the conference, but it sounds like Sony had a good show. Eve interests me.

3D is a value-add, not a game-defining experience.

I think that's my point. They're pushing 3D hard. I don't mind it. I don't hate it. But the PS3 (been too lazy to get mine fixed, bad Blu-Ray drive) was this all powerful hyped console and all we get is prettier games. Where's the new and innovative games?

I know some are excited by what's coming out for the PS3 but I haven't been impressed. Maybe I'm just a jaded gamer having started out playing games on an Atari 2600 way back but the games out on the current gen consoles just haven't impressed me by a whole lot. It's basically just the same games we've been seeing on the PS2 and Xbox. Just with prettier graphics.

Tretton was on GameTrailers. Looks like we shouldn't get our hopes up for Vita by the end of 2011. He said that it will definitely launch in Japan by the end of the year with North America and Europe by the end of the fiscal year (March 2012). Depends on production capacity and demand....

So yeah, March launch for Vita.

The PSP already supports Skype over WiFi, so there's a good chance the Vita will as well.

As for the possibilty of it running Andriod, it's extreamly unlikely Sony will let any "indie" developer release games or applications without going through an approval process, including fees and royalties. I doubt it'll even be as "open" as the iPhone with its publically available SDK.

Microsoft owns Skype now, so that's up in the air at this point. I'd like to think they wouldn't care to push Skype on all mobile devices, especially since they don't compete with the Vita, but who knows.

Cannot wait for the Dust514 Beta this winter. Hopefully my long years of playing ( 2003 ) and activity in the community will get me in the door for that. Or I am going to to iceland to kutt toes off.

DCU proved MMO's can be fun on the consoles and with this being an FPS... I am sure it will be great in concept. Only thing is to get people interested in it.

Oh, good point. I'm not sure how much anyone actually used Skype on the PSP though, so I dunno how hard Sony will push for it to be on the Vita as well.

I think the PS Vita at $250 is definitely something I'm interested in. More than the 3DS which I haven't bought but might just for the new Super Mario game and Mario Kart.

The PS3 announcements were kinda more of the same. Yes the games look good but...it just didn't draw me in. Another Resistence. Another Uncharted. Look at the pretty games, many of which show the same gameplay with nothing to differentiate them from previous ones. Collections of older games (even if they were really good).
