Seems like a pretty good deal......I have a 17" CRT Sony monitor..... which I rather use for movies than the 19" Samsumg CRT or the 17"LCD.

NP, glad I could help.

I am going to go ahead and order this for myself tomorrow.

Personally I think Sony Trinitron are the bezst image qulity out there and a 19in for under 300$ shipped is just sweet. its too bad I cant get it locally.... oh well.

I forwarded this on to my father. I think he's jealous of my 19in Trinitron.

what model are you using?

An excellent question. I'm not exactly sure. I have the Dell P991 which seems to be one of the more recent Trinitron tubes. Can't tell you much beyond that.

$288 shipped is the cheapest I could find it. Sony is selling it $349 with 1 cent ground shipping.

I'm not quite sure what PC World was using as criteria but I've seen most of those monitors that they review and none of them even come close to a Trinitron. I personally hate shadow mask (too "fuzzy") and we use Diamontrons at my office and I've never been impressed with them. They just seem grainy compared to my Trinitron (and even the older curved Trinitrons that we have there). My guess is price was their primary concern.

That pcworld review list is terrible. They dont give any criteria at all and the star ratings semm almost arbitrary.

I appreciate taht you looked for a review..I cant find any myself. I REALLY wish there was a review out there of this monitor.

it just seems like such a great deal for under 300 $ shipped.

of course you can get a 17inch g200 for under that price also, so which would be better?

Ive seen the 17inch version of this at BB...

1. The picture quality sucks. It's washed out, and dim

2. it has the ugliest case design I have ever seen in a monitor

I've always loved Trinitron tubes, and hated NEC anything.

I have a 17" Trinitron with a Dell badge on it and love it!!! (Of course, I paid $20 for it at a thrift store... muahahahahah)

Do the new Trinitrons still have the two horizontal lines from the support wires in the tube? That is the only thing that kept some friends from getting Trinitrons a while back.

Yes, any aperture grill tube will have these. They can do their best to hide it but you can't get rid of it completely because they're needed to hold the vertical strips in place.

Not that you can trust customer reviews much, but at least 8 people that bought the monitor from NewEgg think its pretty great. If I didn't already have a decent monitor, I'd probably pick this one up. Great price in any case...

I'll vouch for NEC FE991SB. I am writing this on its' 17 inch little brother (FE791SB) running at 1600x1200 at 75 Hz refresh. Paid only $163 shipped at Dell SB a couple of months ago. Couldn't be happier - just wish I had sprung for the FE991SB at only 80 bucks more instead !

They are called damper wires, and quite frankly, i consider them a sign of authenticity. If a "xxxtron" monitor does't have it, I dont' like it.

I have a true Sony Trinitron E400 19" and i Love it. No complaints whatsoever. I feel 19" is the best way to go b/c 21" are too big as far as depth, and 17" looks dwarfed next to a 19". 17" monitors now look like 15" to me. But they are still good. I used to have a IBM P70 17" (trinitron) and loved that one too.
