Looks the same as teh current HTC side-slide to me, and they feel pretty flimsy. Hope this is better.

UMTS is one of the 3G standards (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U...communications_System). HSDPA is the 3G downlink protocol. HSUPA is the 3G uplink protocol. The frequencies indicate that it has international support. AT&T in the US is on 850/1900MHz. T-Mobile in the US will someday roll out 3G on 1700/2100MHz. In Europe, they are on 900/1700/1800/2100MHz. So UMTS describes how the system is set up, and HSDPA/HSUPA are the protocols used to move the data.

That is a seriously impressive phone. The display is amazing, and I'm really impressed with how thin and lightweight it is considering it has a full keyboard. This pretty much looks like a dream phone to me. Small, light and with pretty much every feature that I can think of and a beautiful display. It looks pretty stylish too. I wonder what it will cost...

I've been reading about this phone everywhere that I can find information about it... I can't wait for it to be released.

Ah, it's quad-band GSM/HSUPA . Very slick. Plus it's using microSD instead of memory sticks. My only quibble is the lack of "real GPS" onboard - I think it's becoming an important feature more and more these days.

That said, it makes me wish I were on AT&T or T-Mobile so I could buy it and use it.

... how doesn't it? Having aGPS doesn't necessarily indicate that it can't operate standalone, like a "real GPS". I'm no expert on the subject, but I've read that this phone (along with the HTC Tytn II, and probably most others) are fully capable of acquiring a GPS fix without having a connection to the cellular network.

Or am I missing something?

The Tytyn II and HTC Titan (aka Mogul) both have real GPS chips onboard in addition to aGPS. If it had real GPS, it would not be listed as aGPS.

I wonder how much this is going to cost. I'm hoping the 400MB capacity means it's cheaper than an iphone.

I was about to pick up an iphone, but I guess it's worth waiting a few months to see how this compared to the next gen iphone

if they offer some contract deal on it, sure. But otherwise Smartphones are more expensive than iPhones (for what you get) I paid full retail for my Moto Q, it was $419 + tax, and has a whopping 64 megs of storage space, I think it boils down to about 52 megs though. If this one has 400 megs of internal member + a big high res touchs screen. Expect it to cost more than an iPhone, I wonder how the internet experince is in high resolution on WM's crippled web browsing, this phone screams for a real OS, not some Microsofts little retarded brother of XP they call WM6

WM = teh junks, why couldn't they have used the Linux based OS Nokia uses on their higher end phones? Aside from the resolution this phone already is a fail in my mind.

Engadget thinks this amazing phone might be delayed:
http://www.engadget.com/2008/0...ext-year-we-think-hop/

A table of release dates dug up on Sony Ericsson's own site suggests something powerfully depressing, which is that the XPERIA X1 has been pushed all the way out to February 10, 2009 (notice that the date is in European format -- we'd just give up now if it were actually October 2, 2009).

as good as the specs are, it's a WM device. What a SHAME Ericsson didn't have the balls to try and get a Symbian phone in the US market. I know Symbian doesn't want to enter the US with phones, and most Americans are stuck on stupid and think "OMG WM NICE!" I don't mind WM but on a device with these kind of specs WM will hold it back so much. Ericsson is selling out to the man

From the same site, it's on schedule for later this year:
http://www.inxperia.com/index....om_mojo&Itemid=10&p=24

Aldo Liguori, Sony Ericsson Corporate VP for Global Communications and PR said, "I can confirm that we will be launching the X1 product in 2nd Half of 2008, as per our announcement of 10th February that we made in Barcelona."
