Gullible? Perhaps. Desensitized to such outrageous claims by months of equally outrageous news from Sony? Probably.

You know, people criticize the Wii displays because most of them aren't playable (just a looping video), but the PS3 at my local Target has been frozen EVERY time I've gone in there except once. Kind of hard to experience it like that. But in Sony's defense a machine that runs hot like the PS3 really needs adequate ventilation, and there's no way it'll get adequate ventilation when it's enclosed in a kiosk.

I haven't had any issues with my PS3 lockin up or anything, and when I'ved wandered into the gamestop across from my store in the mall the one they have has always been workin.

But it wouldn't surprise me if heat was the issue with those locked boxes. My PS3 gets mighty toasty when it's on.

I agree. The kiosk machine locking up doesn't surprise nor alarm me at all. They are on for many hours a day (24 hrs a day in some stores) and are in small boxes. What else would happen? Imagine if stores put all their demo laptops in small boxes... who anyone really find it surprising that they locked up?

Anyway, the same thing happened with the 360. Plus, people were also posting pictures of the 360 kiosks playing games with bad artifacts due to over heating. Of course, the 360 did indeed turn out to be very susceptible to over heating, but I haven't seen/read any reports that the problem is anywhere near as bad with the PS3. My in-laws surprised me with a PS3 for Christmas and it hasn't locked up... but neither has my launch 360. But I keep all my electronics well ventilated and don't stuff them into enclosed entertainment centers. One final semi-related point in the PS3's favor... it's dead silent. It's actually more silent than the Wii and my stand-alone DVD player.

Because it's not true and they wanted to put a marketing spin on why their products are locking up.

That's what I'm thinking. No console manufacturer would intentionally cause their games to lock up. People playing it would say "Huh, guess this console isn't any good. It locked up!". Now if the kiosk was built to reset the console automatically after 15 minutes of play, that's make sense.

Or an entertainment system?

Even the ones that are open to the air are generally full with other components that also generate heat.

My component shelves are completely open on all sides and most of the components have a shelf to themselves. Even my launch 360, which is notorious for over heating, has yet to lock up a single time due to heat. I'm pretty sure the kiosk machine aren't in an ideal situation. And, again, keep in mind they may be running 12-24 hrs per day depending on the store. That's not typical usage.

I agree, but every time I walk into the EBGames over by my place, the PS3 is frozen solid. Every time.

Who the hell is destructoid.com, and who is Nick Brutal? How is it he got a Sony rep to divulge this information, but nobody else seems to have?

Cause it's crap.

Unfortunately, they're not really in a coffin.

Think of the nails as more like nails through Jesus' hands. He just keeps taking them, and he really doesn't do much of good for anyone.

I'm working temporarily at circuit city right now and the one they have seems to do the same thing. I've only actually seen the demo on about 5% of the time or possibly even less. I never knew why or bothered asking so I just told people that we sold the demo. heheh

PS3's always seem to be out of service at Walmart/BB when I go there. My PS3 at home doesn't have any trouble though, must be something to do with the kiosks or the fact that the console is left on all day.

It was a retail rep. You know who they are? They are the ones that travel around to stores and make sure the kiosks are setup nicely, the game aisles are setup nicely, any signage or poster are put out, etc. As I said earlier, they are one step above the clueless EB/Gamestop employees and aren't above talking out of their ass.

Do they speak officially for Sony though? No. That's where Destructoid made their mistake.

Timers are for the inferior people who do not want the PS3 of course.

if you put your computer and leave it on all day in a small acrylic box, your computer will crash too.
