Only complaint is the cord is very thin so it'll probably wear out /short out before get money's worth out of them. Not sure though, just a guess. Also, minor issue that the y-split is not symmetrical so wrapping up the cord is a bit awkward for traveling with them. And the case is sorta useless, package made it seem like it came w/ a way to spool up the cable but all you get is the plastic part to cover the earbuds. Ah well, they do sound good and well worth the money. I don't know if $39.xx noise reduction headphones would be better for the plane but these certainly did what I needed them to do.

They won't wear out. I've pulled and stressed mine so much over the past two years, I'm completely surprised they haven't torn on me. I did lose my bud pads though.

They're not that easy to lose, but if they get caught on something and you don't notice, it's easy for them to get ripped off. I may jump on this deal. It's an outstanding price.

Mine fell off quite easily. So much so I gave up on them.

I also believe 51 ad 71 are the same. My friend does not think so. He did a blind test: 7 out 9 can hear difference, sound of 71 is more separate than 51 (slightly vivid); beside that, bass are equally good. Keep in mind, he did that in a very quiet room, no one has professionally trained ears. I can't image you can hear the difference in a bus, or noisy campus.

But could they taste the difference?

Sorry, couldn't resist!

I got mine in Japan before you could get them in the States. These sound really good for the price. If you want to use them at the gym and you run they fall out of your ear. Although this might just be a problem for me.

The 71's looks better and is of better build quality. I don't mind the short cable as my Aiwa ZPC3 (8cm CD) player already has a long cord in the remote.

These headphones rocks! The ones that came with the Aiwa player was pretty cool but they were getting old.

Got my 71s for $32

Got mine today and am very impressed, bass is really good. The only thing I have to complain about is the way the cord is setup, instead of splitting down the middle, there is one short cord and one long cord that goes around the back of your neck to your ear, annoying for me...

I had 10th Anniversary 70's, which as far as I know are the exact same thing as the 71's.

Great phones. Good bass and compact. Good sound quality overall, but there's better among regular earphones. For that $30 though? Probably not : P

Are the 51's or 71's longer? Which has a longer cord and which come with the extension cord?

51's are longer

I think the 71's come with the extension cord, but the 70's didn't.

my 2 cents for these 51's earbuds/headphone...

in one word - kick ass!

longer opinion - i've had these for almost 1.5 years...basically connect them only to my iriver slim mp3/radio..great bass, great fit, perfect length...i've used em for everything - on the subway, running every other day, rollerblading, on planes for laptop movies, and my latest - wearing them w/ my helmet on while riding my motorcycle! and boy does my r6 make a lot of noise compounded w/ the wind noise on the helmet, i can still hear these cranked up!

if you're in need of ear buds, DON'T HESITATE TO BUY EM!

every review/opinion has at least one negative comment and here's mine: the damn cord gets soooooo twisted all the time - it's f'ng annoying..they wrap around each other because of the rubber material. I even stick the buds in the plastic casing, but the rest of the cord still twists like a mother..

nontheless, they're still kickass...

overall the 71s are way longer but only if u attach the extension..w/out extension, they're literally 20" maybe less. otherwise the 51s are about 3.5 feet (no extension option)..51s lenght is perfect - not too long not too short..

they have asymetrical y design because u clip ur player to one side of your body, run the wire up that side, and the shorter end of the y goes to the ear closest to the part of the body u're runnin the wire and the longer end wraps behind ur head, along your neck, up to the other ear..lol..sounds complicated but it's not..perfect fit...

casing is sturdy enuf to not break and secures the buds just fine

the rubber wire is strong enuf unless u yank it forcefully..had em for 1.5 years, no crazy bends or rips.

perfect for running - they really stick in ur ear and don't fall out..that was the initial purpose for buying these fones and i was pleasantly surprised at their ability to stick.

i too did my sound quality test between 51s and 71s - cudnt detect any difference watsoever

i think i answered most of the questions on this board...anyothers, shoot me an email.
