Now back in stock at uBid.com SuperStore, with lower price $78.99 + $2.49. Good deal on a new unit, these sell for $120-130 elsewhere. I'd jump on this if it had a mic input but it's still good for storing music.

I see it listed as in-stock... but I only see the Gold version

Wish they had the silver one in the superstore, I only see it up in auctions...

never had the combination of a good price and money in my account at the same time, but the two finally happened at the same time. Thanks a ton. Now to get some rechargable batteries for my new MD and my GBA

Got mine in the mail yesterday, this thing is awesome at this price! My only complaint is the lack of a belt clip. Anyways, this baby is one fine piece of machinery, now off to the nearest bvlank minidisc retailer....

Now they have the Sony MZNE410 for $75, how does it compare to the N505.

edit: nevermind, I was at the auction site.

BTW, incase anyone who has this does not know the musicmatch software that comes with it can be a PITA sometimes and only lets you check out a songs three times(not really a huge deal for many) but I like using the plugin for Realone player myself(musicmatch does have to be installed for what i know)....it is not perfect cause I think you cannot create groups(which i never use) and if you have a lot of songs on a disk it seems to run out of room for titles of the last few for some reason. There is a plug in for another program for it also but I fail to remember what it is right now.

i think u can get past the 3 time checkout limit by reimporting ur songs over again. at least thats what it says in the manual. ive never tried it myself

Yes, that's correct, you just have to check the songs back in. The software is pretty efficient (it will begin converting/compressing a song while the previous file is being uploaded to the minidisc, thus saving time). In contrast, Windows Media Player (which I use to compress WMA for my RCA Lyra2) must completely copy a song to the media before being able to "work" (ie compress/convert) on the next track.

btw, I get between 30 and 40 hours of playback on one single AA rechargeable battery (1650 mAh) on the N505, try to beat this on ANY other mp3 or cd players Seriously, Sony's minidiscs are just this power efficient. My RCA Lyra2 (which uses 2, yes TWO, AA batteries) will only give me about 8 to 10 hours of playback, and my Panasonic MP3/CD Player will only give me 25-30 hours on also 2 AA batteries.

As far as number of songs goes, you can fit around 32-34 songs compressed at the ATRAC3 105kbps setting (sounds a bit better than mp3 @128kbps), or around 66 songs at the ATRAC3 66kbps setting (you'd be suprised, it doesn't sounds nearly as bad as mp3 @80kbps, and is pretty close to mp3 @96kbps) on one single 74min minidisc (80 min discs should let you fit a bit more). Since I also have a Sony Clie NR70, I actually can use the same exact ATRAC3 files on my Magic Gate Memory Stick without having to reconvert or compress.

Finally, if you have an old minidisc player that has a remote headphone, you can still use it on the N505 (which does not come with any).
To carry the N505, I use a small pouch that actually came with an older minidisc player. Oh yes, get the silver N505, the gold one is really a dirty shiny yellow, pretty ugly IMHO.

To answer most of the above questions:

1) Does it have radio?
No.

2) Can you run and jog with this thing?
Oh yeah, MD is very good for activities like those.

Another bid advantage, to me at least, for MD over CD is the everyday handling of the disc itself. Dont' have to worry about scratching the disc, it's smaller, no worry about fingerprints.....

As for getting around the checking the songs out 3 times, go here. Keep in mind that disc recorded this way can only be played on the recorder that support MDLP, which is so far only the newer Sony player. I have Clarion MD player in my car so I can't use this method. I did try it and it works. You can put lot of songs on the disc and it records very fast onto the disc.

I got one a week ago from Ubid. Mine is yellow and it doesn't look that bad. Anyone who is thinking about buying be warned that NetMD sucks balls. The best way to get music onto the player is *shudder* to use realplayer. Even that sucks, but it's not as bad as netMD.

NetMD ROCKS! I've had this unit for > 1 year and there is NOTHING better. I've had mp3 players and sold them on ebay as soon as I purchased the n505.

I agree, silver is the way to go.

I bought from ubid once I saw one of these previous posts.... Im quite happy with my netmd... First off, OpenMG sucks, nuff said.... Sony's Sonicstage (comes on vaio pcs, can be found easily) works pretty well, tho u still have rights management a.k.a. check in check out, Real Player and NetMD Simple burner are pretty nice apps.

Battery life is good, mix of lp2 and lp4 quality gets me about 35-40 hours on cheapo ikea AAs. Skip protection is nice ran down 5 flights of stairs jumping and whatnot, no skip ....

only annoyance with this player is that it beeps once every second when it is paused. stupid stupid stupid. sucks when u attempt conversation with someone, and u have this incessive beeping in your ear

DL the newest free version of RealPlayer. It functions as MusicMatch does, without the annoying checkout feature. It treats the NetMD like an MP3 player.

What kind of remote does this come with?
