Sony or Canon for Digital Camera??? Which one would you choose??

Yes, but the "D60 like "rebel" version" is not.

The main difference being the "rebel" version should be somewhat less feature rich and a whole lot cheaper.

Canon S30 or S40 end of question. Sony is OK, but they don't specialize in digital camera's plus, have you EVER heard of Sony winning awards for their Mavica's? Ummm no. The Canon's on the other hand do.

sony and their proprietary inferior memory they force on people. stay away from sony, they make sure it costs you in the end.

I will bet anyone in here that their Canon G2 or G3 cannot resolve better than my Sony DSC-S85.

How about this:

Lets keep the size down to 1600x1200.
Try to come up with a nice composition of colors and textures.
1 or 2 macro shots of your choice to be done indoors or out.
1 or 2 outdoors shot of your choice.
1 or 2 regular indoor shots.


If you have any Sony or any Canon you can participate and if you do not have a place to put your pictures then I will host them for you,

Well that is like saying the BEST Sony digital camera (which you happen to own) is better than the lower-end Canon's others were recommending. Dollar for dollar the Canon, G2, S30 or S40 cannot be beat by a Sony camera of comprable specs as price. But hey, I would be interested in seeing your picture Wouldn't a person's monitor affect the look of the picture as well? So that would be a contributing factor which people would need to keep in mind.

I think the idea is Sony DSC85 vs Canon G2- G3, btw the dsc85 is not Sony's best or top of the line, and G2/G3 are not Canon's bottom of the line. The Canon(s) are more like ~20%-50% more expensive but they have ~ same pixel resolution as the Sony (4 MP). These were the models I've been comparing and decided on the Sony DSC85 due to better image quality, longer battery life and sturdier construction reported in the majority of reviews I read. I'd like to see more comparison shots between the G2/G3 and the DSC85 myself.

Read any review site, the G2 is a competitor to the F707. As is the G3 to the F717.... in which case the Canon best out the Sony most of the time.

Your S85 isn't in the same league. If I had a Canon S45 or S40 I'd put it up your S85. Got a S75 you want to pit my Canon S30 against?

My Canon PowerShot A40 takes 4 "AA" Batteries of any type. I am currently running them off of Rayovac NiMH.

Maybe you could post some shots like he did. The reviews and samples I've seen show the DSC 85 compete very well against the G2/G3.

I am still awaiting my new Sony P9.. hope it comes soon!! It has been back ordered on Dell.. I was able to get the P9 and 128 MB memory for $450.. I thought I was actually getting a SONY memory stick.. turns out it's some generic brand on DELL's site.. jeez, I was duped.. oh well, hopfully it'll be just as good.. =)
