I just want to know which one is reliable and won't crap out on me. I figure sony since its, well a Sony. but I figure floppy drives have been around long enough that they would have nailed the design down by now heh

even the oem machine floppies last forever just find a color that matches and a price you can live with. Unless you want to get real exotic and get a combo floppy/card reader??

im NOT paying 40 plus bucks for something i will rarely use AND will take up space on a desk... thats just ludicrous. Use the internal floppy controller provided on your mobo.

You should go with the Sony's. I heard you can overclock them better. I was able to get my floppy to 550Kbps on air. No lie. I swear on my grandma's grave.

As suggested a USB floppy is prolly the way to go, just an FYI until I switched to a black case and floppy I used the same Teac floppy drive in all my PC's from my orginal Pentium Classic up to my Current 2500+ @ 3200+ and it still works fine in a 2ndary PC (and it came out of an old 386 desktop orginaly) it's prolly 12+ years old and still kicking, oldest peice of PC gear I have that still sees regular use (for ghost backups)

The problem with the USB floppies is that on a lot of motherboards you can't access them in the instances when nothing but a floppy will do, such as when you are flashing your BIOS or loading storage drivers in the Preinstallation Environment. Considering those are about the only things I actually use a floppy disk for anymore, I find it pointless to spend more money to actually complicate the task.

. Why are Teac FDs 20.? Didn't see the ad, maybe external USB...
The Samsung floppy drives are good too. I also like the YE Data combo floppy/flash card reader from http://www.provantage.com - kill two birds with one bay...
. Or you can get a 2nd gen LS-120 drive on eBay. Blows any normal floppy drive away!

What do you need a floppy for again? If you really need one I would steal one off a used computer. I would even try associates or friends to see if they have a computer they no longer use and offer $1 for the floppy drive. Floppies are probably the most invincible part of a computer. For example, while working construction I noticed a bare case with nought but a floppy drive in it. It has been left out in the rain and humidity in Washington State, but the thing still worked when I salvaged it.

I just buy whatever brand the distributor carries.

Almost always Panasonic, never have problems.
