Sony P4 1.4Ghz and Sony Camcorder for $250, HOT DEAL or Typo?

To start with, I know that the chances of this deal going through isnt great, but i ordered a bunch anyway, cause hell, what if...

But, if there is one sure way to ensure that the deal won't go through, its to do exactly what Hanpan did, which was to [call SONY] and ask them if it was a typo. Well, i'll let you know right now, of course it was a damn typo, its a Pentium 4, 1.4 Gz computer with a $900 camera... you think they were just giving us a good deal... Way to go, ya shmuck.

Sure. It was stupid to call them, though learning from my experience with the Gateway 6400 deal, take any CSR's word with a grain of salt. IF they say it'll be canceled, it's probably a personal opinion, little more educated than yours or mine. It was so early that they most likely have not received any memo from higher up stating that as fact.

OTOH, Keegan, ordering "a bunch" was probably just as dumb an idea. You diminish your own chances that way, and probably ours too, by running up the numbers past a theoretical limit that perhaps if we stayed under, the deal might have gone through... Theoretically.

Unless an idiot, everyone knows this is a typo. $1250 will probably be clearance, but $250 isn't!

So if you don't call them, we get it shipped today and use it tomorrow.It could be true.

But what will happen you call them? will SONY confirm you they have this kind of deal?

This is the first time I'm reading the thread...boy, this was interesting!

I think Sony will cancel all the orders @ $249 and offer a consolation package like a $20 off $50 coupon, free Sony Style mag subscription or something along those lines. It is highly unlikely they will ship $2000+ machines for $250 due to an obvious pricing error, as long as they don't have any legal problems (some states may have exclusions, for instance).

Hmmmm.... I think alot of folks just need to "lighten up". And what about that comment that stuff like this is "cluttering up the forum". I ordered this system knowing full well that I have a very very slim chance of ever seing anything. If Sony sends me nothing but a cancelation, who cares. But I've missed my fair share of great deals here because I listened to the "nay-sayers".

I bet all the folks who complained about the "slim" chance and the "typos" are probably the ones who went down and got a Lotto ticket today, at just a few million to one.

Even if I don't get anything, I'm hoping that those first few orders made it through, and I'd never discourage anyone from trying. GOOD LUCK!

GasPath: you are SO right! I came across this deal a little too late, but if I hadn't I would've defintely tried for one. I DID get in on the staples attache deal and that made me a lot of $. As far as I'm concerned hot deals have a better pay off rate than the lottery... I hit it once, who knows - maybe I'll hit it again!

This is interesting. If you try to buy just the PC (listed at $1399), the PCV-RX463DS it says:

Product Availability: Backordered. Shipping date not available. Please select a different item or submit your order for this item and we will notify you via email upon shipment. You may cancel this order at any time prior to shipment.

Maybe they allocated all that were available to some orders from yesterday.


edit: same thing for the DCR-TRV530 camcorder, backorder.

Now says product availability on or before July 12 2001...and now the shipping is up to $45!!!! They must charge shipping as a % of total price, not by wieght... check out here
