The SBOX PS2 ModChip is the world's first working solution of USB PORT for US & PAL machines. It's compatible with every PS2 model PS2 (US/EUR/JAP), You can now play all your PS2 Backups and also PSX Backups. $25 See it here
Note that you still have to solder 1 wire from the USB port to your board. This is basically a Neo in a USB package, so at least it's easy to put your PS2 in stealth mode. But regardless you'll still have to take apart your PS2 to install this thing, and you still need Game Shark to play PS2 backups.
there's a new modchip for the PS2 which doesn't require gameshark to boot up games... however, it only works for the jap version... those guys are working to make one for the us version as we speak...
ivanov: can you give me some info on that mod chip? I've been researching it for a while, and have not heard of any solution for any type of console that doesn't require a swap.
BTW, the Sbox (also known as the NeoKey) requires a wire to be soldered, as virtuamike said, and also does not support EA games. On the other hand, it's easy to disable (most models have a switch on them, otherwise you can just unplug it from the USB port)
i'm to scared to mod my ps2... its not like doing a regular ps1. you gotta be very careful and not have shaky hands if you wanna solder.... i still don't know if i should do it.... i mean most games that are goind to be realesed this year are probably going to be DVD format.... i don't know... maybe i'll do it.. but i wouldn't buy this one... just buy a NEO2 if you are in a rush to have a mod chip or wait for the one that doesn't need gameshark and save yourself some cash
