According to what I can find, it will NOT support 4K Blu rays....that likely will impact my decision to purchase the Pro. Was looking to get the updated PS4 + 4K BD player. This seems crazy to me!?

That can't be right... why did they even bother then? I know from the get-go this generation that the PS4 was more game focused on the XB1 was media focused, but this just seems like a huge missed opportunity.

Can't agree more. I was looking forward to getting a PS4 with 4K BD support (didn't;t matter if Neo or Slim honestly) to add to my standard Xbox One.

Now...I think I may just replace the Xbox One with the S and use that alone....maybe get the Scorpio next year, maybe not. Was 100% looking to get a 4K receiver + 4K player. Rethinking that now...

Can't fathom why Sony missed on this...doesn't make any sense for a format they drive.

Dumb not to include a 4k blu-ray drive. Also, does anybody know what the new lightbar is for on the new dualshock 4? Has sony said what it's for? We really need to be able to turn out the lights completely, for battery longevity.

I was going to get the 4K PS4 to replace my bluray drive in my HT as I have a 4K receiver and TV but now I will just get an older model ps4 on closeout.

Sony wants you to use their UHD HDR streaming app called Ultra. They also want you to buy their stand alone UHD player. Luckily I already have a UHD player and don't really care about a console having it. Nice bonus sure, but not a requirement for me.

So let me get this right...all PS4 models will get an HDR update? Does that include HDR gaming or just streaming? What does the Pro have that my current PS4 does not have? Will I get any gaming benefit from it at all?

Don't disagree. They could have included it in the 'Pro' and had that be a real differentiator. Oh well.

So the only difference is the faster APU and a 1 TB HD instead of 500 (would kind of prefer an smaller SSD, but eh).

Without the UHD drive I think the sales % is going to be much more lopsided towards the Slim. Don't know if the extra $100 is going to be worth it.

What I'm hearing is that the PS4 Pro can render games at 1440p and upscale those to 4k. They aren't limited to 1080p. Also some people seem to believe that the HDR update for the current models is only for streaming and that to get HDR games yoiu will have to have a Pro model. Sony has not said one way or the other. I wish they were more clear on that.

I'm in if this improves 1080p but the details are very lacking. Apple knows how to press conference so much better.

They did say that if you had a 1080p TV that you would enjoy higher frame rates from the PS4 Pro. Just no scaling to 4k. They also mentioned that online games will not have increased framerate so no advantage for Pro owners.

The original rumor did say they were going to increase the CPU clock 40% but I haven't seen a confirmation.

Huh, Sony says the max power draw of the Pro is 310 W... Original 250 W, Slim 165 W. That almost suggests that the Pro is still on 28 nm.

It's not 28nm, that wouldn't even be feasible. It's just a massively more powerful system, it basically has a downclocked RX480 in it.

I love some of the forums around the net now with people claiming Microsoft just took the lead or whatever. I thought the ps4 and Xbox one were video game consoles? You know, to play games on? Everything else is just extra or that's how they should be handled. Where else are you gonna play the new God of War in HDR? Meanwhile I will be able to play Gears of War in HDR on my PC with the right hardware.

Gotta love jumping to conclusions

I would think it should be around what the original PS4 was though if it was a proper shrink though. Something is fishy.

You mean their UHD player that doesn't exist?

They should have just waited another year and released the PS5 and made it 100% backwards compatible.

Not sure what the point of the PS4 Pro is, Sony is already handily winning the current generation by a wide margin.

I'll wait to see some Eurogamer tests, but I probably won't even bother with a Pro...at least not unless I can pick it up for $300. Right now VR has absolutely no appeal to me, and I don't have any plans to buy a 4K capable display.

I think this is a counter to the fact that MS is doing away with console generations. With the release of Gears 4 and Forza Horizon 3, they will show that Xbox is a software platform and can be independent of hardware. Having an install base in the 100's millions puts them ahead of Sony for the long haul. Granted, a much smaller percentage can run games, but with Intel APU's advancing, having XB1/PS4 level graphics is more achievable. Unfortunately for Sony, they only exist in the physical console space.

As an added bonus, both the PS4 Slim and the PS4 Pro support 5 GHz wireless now.

You would think so, but apparently an updated BD drive is required for UHD playback. MS added this for the new Xbx One S model. As you state, you would think Sony would be supporting this, but you would also think they would have highlighted it has the new drive?

My source isn't definitive, but those onsite tweeting supposedly got confirmation from Sony it wouldn't play UHD discs but will support Netflix 4K playback, etc. Just bizarre...

I am sure UHD playback would have increased the PS4 Pro price another $100. Any chance they will release yet another iteration of the PS4 with UHD support and AC wireless? While i don't need AC wireless i would think that would be a big plus to gamers who do not have ethernet cables running to their PS4.
