Sony PS2 SCPH-90000 for North America?

I really, REALLY want the new PS2. Does anyone have a clue if they announced it for NA yet?

This opens up all kinds of possibilites for putting a PS2 in new places...a drawer...car, undermounted to a kitchen cabinet... .

Does it still have the flip top DVD drive? If so, that might hinder the under-counter mounting.

Did the PS2 discs' inner ring snap onto the drive spindle?

As I mentioned several weeks ago when the 40GB PS3 was announced, this is Sony's way of giving customers backwards compatibility.

From what I understand it's the exact same as the PS2 slim except the AC adapter is internal.

Also its the SCPH-90000, SCPH-9000 is a PSone model.

I have the current slim one right now (7xxxx or something) ....it works just fine upside down.

Caucasian is right on, but - I really like the idea of no power brick...makes for a really clean install so I can phish cables and not have to worry about hiding bricks too. Sorry for the model typo; noted and corrected.

So anybody got an inside scoop? Are we going to get this new version of the slim Stateside?

Yeah. I take it you're suggesting vertical mounting, which would work. I was thinking mounting like an under-cabinet radio.

Edit; Oh yeah, upside down would work too. Seems rather... odd though.

I would say yes, but probably not until maybe the middle of this year. This new system also allows Sony to make the system for less money, so there's no real reason to not switch to it unless the cost to convert the factories to it would be more expensive than their savings, but I would be doubtful. Sony could also get on the goodside of the environmental movement by offering discounts on the new one for recycling old PS2s, but thats more wishful thinking than anything.
