Got plenty in stock at Target when I went and get mine before noon. So either Sony is doing a good job supplying or it's not selling so well.

anyway, $250 is fair for what it is. But i think $200 will really make it fly. If sony adds web browsing, streaming audio/video, emailing/instant messaging capability to this unit then it's gonna be a really great all-around entertainment unit. And i hope it'll be able to run software/games (like PDA) off the memory stick. Maybe i can somehow put this behind the headrest in my car to be used as a video player for rear passengers.

Speaking of game library, i assume PSP is similar to PS2 so i guess it wouldn't be too hard to port the PS2 games over.

I went by Best Buy (blech) because I was in the neighborhood, and wouldn't you know it? In classic BestBuy style, they were virtually refusing to sell the plain old value pack for $250. Instead, they had "bundles" which bundled together the PS2 value pack, the product replacement plan ($40), one game ($50), and a 256 memory card ($70).... and that was the *cheapest* one they offered -- $410 plus tax. Their other bundles went up to $550.

Worst Buy, indeed.

Same thing at my BB. I was actually going to get one for $250, but all they would do are those stupid ass bundles. They had A LOT in stock, and I hope it stays that way for them.

I guess I was lucky then. I went to my local BB this morning since I had to get rid of $125 worth of giftcards and had no problem picking up just the PSP value pack. They did try to push the accessories, games, and warranty on me but I just told them I wasn't interested and just wanted the PSP itself. Got in and out in about 5 minutes.

Just got back from my local Walmart...they still had plenty in stock. I thought they would be sold out by now for sure.

About 5 months ago they said their value pack (psp + 3 games) was going to be $300 or just around it. Then they jacked up the price so now I can't afford it! Should have expected it though...

Yes but... Since DS is backwards compatible with GBA and GBC, games were plentiful. Not to mention they are in $30 range versus close to $50 for PSP. There is an adaptor for DS that will turn DS into movie and MP3 player which can be had for ~$30 that uses much cheaper CF cards, instead of MS Duo. Looks like I'll have to wait for about a year when there are plenty of used PSP's and games.

First I have heard of this...any more info?

I went to BestBuy in Riverside, CA and was able to just walk in at 1:30pm PST and just pick up a PSP Value Pack without any games or anything else. They had about 1/2 a pallet left when I was there.

The question still stands, why do you people buy those consoles without games? This makes no sense to me whatsoever.

Cause I'm more interested in the media aspect than the games. I bought it mainly to convert and watch movies and tv shows via memory card, mp3, and photos. Games are secondary to me, but I'll likely pick up a game or two when games are around $20 in the future and use the built-in WiFi multiplayer support. If I wanted to play games I would have bought the Gameboy Advance SP as that's the best portable gaming machine.

Exactly what I plan on doing with mine. Now if I could just get my hands on a 1GB DUO Pro stick without spending an arm & a leg!

you guys obviously haven't done your research. psp is quite the miserable movie player, with all the necessary converting and folder mapping necessary.

only real good news is don't need to convert to ATRAC anymore, mp3 works fine.

80 bucks for a 256 mb memory stick ain't so hawt either.

I dont know what site you are looking at for memory sticks, but they are $63 for a 512.

I can convert a 1 hour show using Beyond TV software to less than 500MB @ near DVD quality with only a click of a button. As for getting it onto the DUO stick I haven't got my PSP yet.

But even at this price you would need a gig to store one divx movie. Given the fact a person would be traveling with the psp, one would need or 2-3 of ms duos. Unless the price drops on ms duos a person could easily be spending 500+ on the psp which is simiply not worth it if your main reason is to use it as a portable media player. However , it does play mp3's but most people who are buying the psp prob already own an mp3 player as well. With that said, games do look impressive. I played ridge racer on it and its incredible but not worth the 250 bucks, but it does have a high fun factor and fanboy appeal.

I picked one up ... Yes, a preorder bundle package with The Hack ?n Slash RPG, NFS, and Spidey2. The Hack ?n Slash and NFS were my 2 must haves. I?ll trade Spidey2 in for Lumens or Metal Gear before I even open it. It?s waiting for me at home once I get done with work.

For one that has spends 2-3 hours 5 days a week on a commuter train. I'm really looking forward to it.

After trying unsuccessfully to use my laptop to play StarCraft / RedAlert2 / Worms on the train (I hate touch-pads); I decided to get myself a GameBoy SP. The GameBoy SP was the first handheld I have bought in many years. I have really enjoyed it. But I don't see any games coming down the pipeline for the GBA that I want to get my hands on. I would have bought a DS if I could have easily gotten my hands on one. Thanks to the initial supply problems, I waited for the PSP.

I never really got to play most of the big PS1/PS2 games. So I really won?t mind slightly watered down ports. Even if the console flops there are enough games coming down the pipeline to keep me happy till the next generation GameBoy.

The movie/music situation is just a bonus.

Dead pixes are starting to concern me. This type of thing making it through QA makes me worry about what else may have slipped through.

This will be one of the first things I check.
