At the price, the Wii is a much more economical 'impulse' buy than the PS3.

Speaking to the New York Times, Sony Computer Entertainment of America spokesperson Dave Karraker said that 100,000 PS3 units are being shipped into the US each week - and are selling out.

However, he conceded that sales have slowed since the busy Christmas period, stating, "The frenzy we saw at the holidays has subsided a bit."

So, they are selling everyone they make, yet demand is lower and production is up?

Maybe it's just me, but standing in line at 4am to get a wii isn't in my definition of 'impulse buy'. It's about as thought out and planned as you can get.

Go to an electronics store and you'll see they aren't selling out.

I'm not a console fan, haven't bought one since my Dreamcast (RIP ) My GF bought a Wii, I have to say Rayman Raving Rabbids(sp?) is freaking fun, the Wii sports is pretty good, haven't played anything else. But, I had an awesome time with Rayman, the control is better then I expected. So what it's not HD, it looked damn good on her 42" LCD.

Impulse buy or not, the Wii is selling out non stop.

Wii would be impulse for me... but I'm the kind of guy who impulsively buys things like the XBOX 360.

It would be an impulse buy for me, but so far Raving Rabbids is the only game that makes me want to buy it.

Games like Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Call of Duty look more like PS2 games on the wii than like the 360 & PS3 versions, and games like Oblivion won't run at all. There's a large class of games where (to me) eye candy does matter.

LOL, so true. Impulse buying is when you show up to a store and end up buying something you had no plans whatsoever to buy. I think it is quite clear that people want the Wii before they show up to buy it. Any impulse buying might have occurred upon launch back in November when the console was still really an unknown, but for the people buying it now I bet the vast majority have either played it or have at least concluded from reviews and/or testimonials from friends that it won't disappoint.

Suddenly an impulse buy is bad for a company? I'm sure Sony wouldn't be complaining if the PS3 was an impulse buy.

The PS3 has no real reason to be an impulse buy right now...will it later with other games and a possible price decrease? Yeah.

But who knows, maybe Sony will scrap all possible good games coming out and up the price to keep it away from the horrible "impulse-buying-worthy" status.

I'd love to see Sony's explanation for the XBox360 Raping the PS3 in sales in addition to to Wii. Sony really screwed the pooch this gen. They managed to go from dominating the last 2 generations to dead last.

HA yea, I went to Fry's yesterday and there were no "impulse buy" Wii's in stock but plenty of PS3 20/60GB's in stock.
